BU faculty may <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/tech\/support\/research\/account-management\/create-project\/\" title=\"create a Research Computing Project\">create a Research Computing Project<\/a>, serve as the Lead Project Investigator, and add their collaborators (students, researchers outside of BU, etc.) to their project.<\/p>\n<p>Faculty members may create and maintain as many Projects as they need in order to conveniently manage their research activities. This can include creating a separate project to support the work of one or more graduate students, even if that work is different from the faculty member\u2019s own research.<\/p>\n<h2>Getting an SCC Account and Managing it<\/h2>\n<p>If you are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/tech\/support\/research\/account-management\/getting-an-scc-account\/\">interested in using the SCC<\/a>, you either need to be added to an existing project or apply (or have a faculty member you are working with apply) to create a new project.  There are also a couple of other more limited account options available. Once you have an account, you can <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/tech\/support\/research\/account-management\/manage-account\/\" title=\"Research Computing User Information\">view your usage, change your default project, and update contact information<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>SCC Management Page<\/h2>\n<p>Every SCC user, Lead Project Investigator (LPI), IT\/Administrative Contact, and Buy-in Computing or Storage owner or authorizer has a personalized <a href=\"https:\/\/acct.bu.edu\/cgi-bin\/perl\/secure\/redirect_sccmgmt.pl\">SCC Management<\/a> web site to manage information about their account, projects, and Buy-in resources.<\/p>\n<h2>Managing your Project<\/h2>\n<p>All of the projects and accounts on the SCC are managed by a web-based system where the Lead Project Investigator (or their optional IT\/Administrative Contact)\u00a0submits web forms to create new projects, add users to existing projects, request resources, monitor usage, etc.<\/p>\n<p>Descriptions of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/tech\/support\/research\/account-management\/manage-project\/\">project maintenance, resource request, and monitoring<\/a> policies and forms are available.<\/p>\n<h2>Managing Buy-in Computing &amp; Storage Resources<\/h2>\n<p>Those participating in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/tech\/support\/research\/computing-resources\/service-models\/buy-in\/\">Research Computing Buy-in Program<\/a>, through purchasing either Computing or Storage resources, can <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/tech\/support\/research\/account-management\/buy-in-management\/#COMPUTING\">set the policies that govern the usage of their Computing nodes<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/tech\/support\/research\/account-management\/buy-in-management\/#STORAGE\">allocate their purchased Storage space to whatever Research Computing Projects they wish<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>Usage Policies<\/h2>\n<p>Your usage of the SCC and Linux Virtual Lab must abide by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/tech\/about\/policies\/computing-ethics\/\">BU Ethics Policy<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/tech\/about\/policies\/info-security\/\">BU Information Security Policy and Guides<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Send questions and comments to <strong><a href=\"mailto:help@scc.bu.edu\">help@scc.bu.edu<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Accessing the SCC for Research People using the Shared Computing Cluster (SCC) must be a member of a Research Computing Project.
