To purchase additional space, see this <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/tech\/support\/storage-options\/cloud-storage-service-offerings\/microsoft-cloud-storage\/#Cost\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Cost<\/a> table.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>See <a href=\"#GettingStarted\">Getting Started<\/a>, below.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><\/div>\n<p>SharePoint is a Microsoft 365 cloud-based collaboration service for groups of all sizes, offering many tools for groups to manage and share information. Individuals, groups, and departments may request and then manage their own SharePoint sites. SharePoint is also the standard document sharing platform used by Microsoft Office, and is closely integrated with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/tech\/services\/cccs\/collaboration\/online\/microsoft-teams\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Microsoft Teams<\/a> and Outlook\/Exchange email. Since August 2013 we have created more than 3,000 sites for departments and research groups in SharePoint Online, both standalone and associated with Teams.<\/p>\n<h2>Benefits<\/h2>\n<p>The BU community and invited external collaborators have access to a secure, centrally maintained information management and collaboration service that is easy to use, rich in features, and customizable. SharePoint provides a single place to find the most current information, documents, and related communication, simplifying your work life and allowing you to stop using email as your document management system.<\/p>\n<h2>Key Features<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Information can be managed in many ways, e.g., utilizing document libraries, lists, work flows, and web pages.<\/li>\n<li>A rich set of out-of-the-box capabilities makes it easy to organize, view, and use your information in different ways, depending on your needs at the moment.<\/li>\n<li>Multiple versions of documents and list items can be maintained automatically.<\/li>\n<li>Information can be found through full-text search or by searches specific to metadata tagged to the information.<\/li>\n<li>Pre-defined workflows can automate common processes such as collecting feedback and approving documents; custom workflows can be designed for more complex tasks.<\/li>\n<li>Each faculty and staff member with a SharePoint license also receives a <a target=\"_blank\" title=\"BU OneDrive\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/tech\/services\/infrastructure\/storage-backup\/cloud-file-storage\/onedrive\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">BU OneDrive<\/a> (<a title=\"OneDrive for Business\" href=\"https:\/\/products.office.com\/en-us\/onedrive\/onedrive-for-business\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">OneDrive for Business<\/a>) &#8212; a personal SharePoint document library with 250 GB of space (more can be <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/tech\/support\/storage-options\/cloud-storage-service-offerings\/microsoft-cloud-storage\/#Cost\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">purchased<\/a>) where you can store files and share them with others. You can synchronize files you store in the cloud to multiple Windows and Mac personal computers, and access these files from mobile devices. You can also share files and folders with people both inside and outside Boston University.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>What to Expect<\/h2>\n<p>SharePoint Online is provided as part of the cloud-based Microsoft 365 platform, for which Microsoft promises 99.9% uptime.
