On the left side of the screen are the files in your current PC directory (in this case, C:). The files listed on the right side of the screen are in your current UIS directory (INFMAH, in this case).<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-17738\" src=\"\/tech\/files\/2009\/12\/FTP_02-636x466.jpg\" alt=\"FTP_02\" width=\"636\" height=\"466\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/tech\/files\/2009\/12\/FTP_02-636x466.jpg 636w, https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/tech\/files\/2009\/12\/FTP_02-1024x750.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/tech\/files\/2009\/12\/FTP_02.jpg 1109w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 636px) 100vw, 636px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>For details on using and configuring the BlueZone Secure FTP, see the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bluezonesoftware.com\/help\/v50\/en\/bzftp\/bzftp.htm\">BlueZone help file<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3>Quick File Transfer<\/h3>\n<p>There are three quick ways to transfer a file:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Option 1: <\/strong>Click and drag it from one side of the screen to the other. When you release the mouse button, the file will transfer.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Option 2:<\/strong> Click on a file to select it, then click on either the <strong>Send File<\/strong> or <strong>Receive Files<\/strong> buttons along the top menu. Or,<\/li>\n<li><strong>Option 3: <\/strong>Right-click on a file to select it and bring up a context sensitive menu. Select <strong>Receive<\/strong> to download a file to your PC. Select <strong>Send<\/strong> to upload a file to the mainframe.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ol><\/ol>\n<p><strong>Please Note:<\/strong> The FTP session will <strong>automatically time out and disconnect after five minutes of non-use.<\/strong> There is no warning or pop-up message. In this case, go to the <strong>Session<\/strong> menu, select <strong>Connect<\/strong> and log in again.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Changing Directories<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Mainframe:<\/strong> Click in the UISA <strong>Directory<\/strong> field, delete the existing directory name, and type the directory name that you want to go to. You <strong>must<\/strong> include a single quote ( &#8216; )at the beginning and end of your directory name, such as &#8216;SO.USER.INFMAH&#8217;. You can also go up or down the directory chain by either clicking on the <strong>up folder<\/strong> button (next to the directory field) or by double-clicking on a folder icon in the file list, respectively.<\/li>\n<li><strong>PC: <\/strong>Click in the Local <strong>Directory<\/strong> field, delete the existing directory name, and type the directory name that you want to go to. You can also go up or down the directory chain by either clicking on the <strong>up folder<\/strong> button (next to the directory field) or by double-clicking on a folder icon in the file list, respectively.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Transfer Type<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>By default, the transfer type is set to <strong>auto.<\/strong> This means that BlueZone will determine whether to transfer the file in ASCII or in Binary format. This can be changed manually.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>ACII:<\/strong> Click on the <strong>ABCD<\/strong> button (most <strong>data<\/strong> transfers should use this).<\/li>\n<li><strong>Binary: <\/strong>Click on the <strong>101011<\/strong> button (most <strong>program<\/strong> transfers should use this).<\/li>\n<li><strong>Auto: <\/strong>Click on the <strong>AB\/10<\/strong> button.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Setting File Specifications on UIS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>When transferring a file to the UIS mainframe (uploading), it may be necessary to provide the file&#8217;s specifications: logical record length, block size, and number of tracks (if it is sufficiently large). To do this, select <strong>Custom<\/strong> from the <strong>Commands<\/strong> menu (see below).<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-17740\" src=\"\/tech\/files\/2009\/12\/FTP_03.jpg\" alt=\"FTP_03\" width=\"414\" height=\"183\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Enter in the appropriate site command. (In the example below, the record format is set to fixed, the logical record length is set to 800, and the block size is set to 8000.)<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-17741\" src=\"\/tech\/files\/2009\/12\/FTP_04.jpg\" alt=\"FTP_04\" width=\"391\" height=\"150\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Click <strong>OK.<\/strong> Confirmation of the command is displayed in the status window below the PC and mainframe directory listing windows. (See below, <strong>SITE command was accepted<\/strong>).<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-17742\" src=\"\/tech\/files\/2009\/12\/FTP_05.jpg\" alt=\"FTP_05\" width=\"522\" height=\"256\" \/><\/p>\n<h4>Setting FTP Session Defaults<\/h4>\n<p>You can set the way that BlueZone FTP starts &#8212; specifically, what PC and what UIS directories are displayed when you first log in. If you do repeated file transfers, it will be convenient to set these defaults.<\/p>\n<p>First, select <strong>Configure<\/strong> from the <strong>Session<\/strong> menu (see below).<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-17743\" src=\"\/tech\/files\/2009\/12\/FTP_06.jpg\" alt=\"FTP_06\" width=\"409\" height=\"193\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Next, click on the <strong>Edit<\/strong> button from the <strong>Session Configuration<\/strong> dialog box (see below).<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-17744\" src=\"\/tech\/files\/2009\/12\/FTP_07.jpg\" alt=\"FTP_07\" width=\"501\" height=\"578\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Finally, in the <strong>Connection<\/strong> tab, enter (or browse to) the path for:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Initial PC Directory<\/li>\n<li>Initial Host Directory (<strong>Note: <\/strong>be sure to begin and end the directory name\/path with a <strong>single quote<\/strong> ( &#8216; ). See example, below.)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-17745\" src=\"\/tech\/files\/2009\/12\/FTP_08.jpg\" alt=\"FTP_08\" width=\"446\" height=\"515\" \/><\/p>\n<p>More details on setting the initial directory can be found in the <strong>Connection Tab<\/strong> sub-section of the<strong> Connecting to the Host System<\/strong> section in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bluezonesoftware.com\/help\/v50\/en\/bzftp\/bzftp.htm\">BlueZone help file<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h4>BlueZone\u00a0 FTP to Another (Non-UIS) Site<\/h4>\n<p>BlueZone can be used to transfer files to\/from other, non-UIS sites.
