Introduction<\/h3><\/p>\nAs you use Google Drive, you might accumulate files shared with you by other Google users. These shared files are not stored in your Google Drive and do not count towards your storage quota. However, if the owner of these files deletes them or their account, the shared files will be permanently lost.<\/p>\n
To preserve these files, you should either:<\/p>\n
\n- Make a copy<\/strong> of the files into your own My Drive.<\/li>\n
- Move the files to a Shared Drive<\/strong>, which will retain all sharing settings and permissions. This is the recommended method for storing shared data.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

\nBefore you begin migrating your data, ensure the following:<\/p>\n\n- File Source: <\/strong>The files you wish to move are shared with you from a bu.edu email account.<\/li>\n
- Network Access:<\/strong> You have access to a network share with read and write.<\/li>\n
- Storage Space:<\/strong> There is enough storage space in the network share to accommodate your files and folders. To check the storage quota, click on the gear icon in the top right corner of Google Drive and select Drive settings<\/strong>.\n
To check network storage availability using a Windows or Mac operating system, follow the steps below.<\/p>\n

- Locate the available storage on your network share under \u201cFree Space<\/strong>\u201d in the Properties window.\n
