This page includes instructions for copying an entire course<\/b> and copying individual items between courses<\/b> in Blackboard Ultra.<\/p>\n

Copying an entire course<\/h5>

  1. Open the Ultra course you want to copy course content into (or “destination” course).\n

    This is a blank destination course in Ultra.<\/p><\/div><\/li>\n

  2. On the\u202fCourse Content<\/strong>\u202fpage, select the “…” three dot menu next to the search option.\n

  3. Select Copy Items<\/strong> from the dropdown menu. A list of your courses appears. If the course you\u2019re looking for isn\u2019t on the first page, use the arrows to navigate or use the search bar. You can also search for Organizations by selecting the Organizations tab.\n

    You can locate your “source course” in your course list.<\/p><\/div><\/li>\n

  4. Select the checkbox<\/strong> next to the name of the “source” course to do a full course copy into your destination course. <\/em>When you perform a full course copy, all settings are preserved including due dates, visibility states, and release conditions.\n
      \n
    • Course links<\/strong> inside of learning modules with forced sequencing can\u2019t be copied. This prevents users from navigating outside of the forced sequencing option. When a course link is copied, all associated content is also copied.\n

    • Select Start Copy<\/strong>. Copies are a queued process. The spinner that displays at the bottom of the Course Content page is a validation check. You don\u2019t need to stay on the Course Content page for the copy to be processed. If you want to check if a copy has been completed, go to the “…” three dot menu from the Course Content page and select Course Tasks and Logs.\n

    • Review<\/strong> the course content, links, assessments, and gradebook items to make sure they are working properly.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      Copying individual course items<\/h5>

      1. In the destination course’s Course Content\u202f<\/strong>page, select the “…” three dot menu next to the search option.\n

      2. Select Copy Items<\/strong> from the dropdown menu. A list of your courses appears. If the course you\u2019re looking for isn\u2019t on the first page, use the arrows to navigate or use the search bar. You can also search for Organizations by selecting the Organizations tab.\n

      3. Click the name of a course (the “source” course) to see its available items to copy. The following categories are available:\n
          \n
        • Content:<\/strong> Items that are listed in the main Content area for that course.<\/li>\n
        • Announcements:<\/strong> Items that are listed on the Announcements tab for that course.<\/li>\n
        • Discussions:<\/strong> Items that are listed on the Discussions tab for that course.<\/li>\n
        • Question Banks:<\/strong> All available Question Banks for that course.<\/li>\n
        • Rubrics:<\/strong> All available Rubrics for that course.<\/li>\n
        • Grade Schemas:<\/strong> All available Grade Schemas for that course.<\/li>\n
        • Settings:<\/strong> Contains the course banner used in that course.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

          The source course used for this example has Content, Discussions, Grade Schemas, and Settings. More directories would appear if Announcements, Question Banks, and Rubrics were a part of the source course.<\/p><\/div>\n

          *Note:<\/strong> You will only see the categories listed above if your course contains those item types. If you don\u2019t see a category, that means your course doesn\u2019t include those item types.
          \n*For Ultra sandboxes with content imported from Learn Original:<\/strong> Announcements, Discussions, Rubrics, and Grade Schemas in your sandbox that have been imported from Learn Original may need to be reformatted in Ultra. Please review all content types when you make copies.<\/li>\n

        • Click a category<\/strong> to view available items for copy.\n

          Click the directory to open it (do not select the checkbox).<\/p><\/div><\/li>\n

        • Then, select the checkboxes for items you would like to copy<\/strong>. Content is automatically set to Hidden from students if you copy individual items into your course.\n

            • Note:<\/strong> Even if you select all checkboxes, this is still an individual item copy. Copying individual items doesn\u2019t preserve release conditions and visibility states<\/em>. If you want to preserve those settings, go back to the list of courses and select the checkbox beside the name of the course, and then Start Copy to do a full course copy. Otherwise, you can set release conditions and visibility states again in your destination course.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

            • Select Start Copy<\/strong>. Copies are a queued process. The spinner that displays at the bottom of the Course Content page is a validation check. You do not need to stay on the Course Content page for the copy to be processed. If you want to check if a copy has been completed, go to the “…” three dot menu from the Course Content page and select Course Tasks and Logs.<\/li>\n
            • Review all copied items<\/strong> to make sure students can see only the content that you want to show and that due dates are correct. From the Course Content page, you can use the Batch Edit<\/strong> feature from the “…” three dot menu to update visibility and due dates all at once.\n

              • Course links<\/strong> inside of learning modules with forced sequencing can\u2019t be copied. This prevents users from navigating outside of the forced sequencing option. When a course link is copied, all associated content is also copied. LTI items also can\u2019t be copied through individual course item copy. If you want to copy an LTI item, use the full course copy process instead.<\/li>\n
              • Disclaimer:<\/strong> If you copy a module over and an LTI is placed within that module, the LTI will carry over but you will need to re-link the activity in the new course.\n

                You can find the “Batch Edit” option in the three-dot menu.<\/p><\/div>\n

                Batch Edit can be used to quickly adjust visibility, access, and dates for all course items.<\/p><\/div><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
