May be used for simple or complex databases and participant surveys. Purposes for use include research, educational\/training, QI, and QA.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">REDCap (Research Electronic Data Capture) is a secure web-based application for electronic data capture (EDC) and data management. REDCap was created at Vanderbilt University and is primarily for human subject research and quality improvement studies.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">REDCap allows end users to build online databases and surveys, accessible to collaborators and participants, respectively, with real-time data quality checks, queries, and reporting. REDCap production projects have audit logs of user activity, data changes, and a history of revisions, helping to prevent unwanted changes or data loss. REDCap features include data exports to Excel and statistical packages (SPSS, SAS, Stata, and R), longitudinal data collection, randomization, e-consent, multi-language management, branching logic, and calculated fields.<\/p>\n<h2>Benefits<\/h2>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The REDCap service improves research data accuracy and integrity and provides data security and research compliance safeguards. Researchers can securely manage their project databases from any location.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The REDCap server has security features required to allow the system to collect, process, and store data classified as\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/policies\/data-protection-requirements\/\">Restricted Use<\/a>. Website maintenance occurs every Sunday morning 12 AM to 8 AM EST (-5 GMT), and the application may be taken offline at any time during that period which may result in losing any data you enter during that period.<\/p>\n<h2>Requirements<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>A <a href=\"https:\/\/redcap.bumc.bu.edu\/surveys\/?s=RYKEW4N4RX\">REDCap End-User License Agreement<\/a> is required prior to account creation<\/li>\n<li>A REDCap username &amp; password<\/li>\n<li><span>If you are collecting data for human research, an Institutional Review Board review and approval or exemption of the project is required. Please see <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/researchsupport\/compliance\/human-subjects\/\" title=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/researchsupport\/compliance\/human-subjects\/\">Research Compliance<\/a><span> for Boston University\u2019s Charles River or Medical Campus Human Subjects research requirements.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><strong>If you are conducting a drug or device study and plan to use REDCap for any data collection, including e-consent, you must comply with<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fda.gov\/media\/75414\/download\">FDA 21 CFR Part 11 requirements for electronic records and signatures<\/a><strong>.<\/strong>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/researchsupport\/forms-policies\/redcap-research-electronic-data-capture-part-11-process-training\/\">The established Part 11 training and procedures must be followed<\/a>.
