If you are off campus, use the VPN<\/h4>\n

If you are in an off-campus location, you will first need to connect to the VPN – login at http:\/\/vpn.bu.edu<\/a>. Once you are connected to the VPN, you should follow the instructions below to begin printing. If you are printing from an on-campus location, or if you are already connected to the VPN, you are ready for the next step.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Installing BU Departmental Printers<\/h4>\n

  1. Download the installer package by clicking here<\/a>.<\/li>\n
  2. Open the BU-Universal-Print-Queues.pkg<\/strong> file you downloaded.<\/li>\n
  3. Proceed through the Installer prompts, installing the package to your local system drive (e.g. “Macintosh HD”).

  4. You should now see the printers installed in System Preferences >> Printers and Scanners<\/em>.

    The printers are configured to accept your current AD login session credentials, if applicable. If you are asked to authenticate when you print, please enter your BU login name and password.<\/p>\n

    Manually Installing Printers<\/h3>
    <\/p>\n

    Note:<\/strong> Installing the printers manually will not allow you to use finishing features, such as stapling and hole punching. We recommend using the package method above wherever possible.<\/p>\n

    1. Go to the Apple<\/strong> menu and open System Preferences<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
    2. Click on Printers & Scanners<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
    3. Click the “+<\/strong>” button at the bottom of the Printers List.<\/li>\n
    4. On the toolbar at the top of the window, look for an Advanced<\/strong> (gear) icon. If you see it, click it. If not, follow the below steps to make it visible first.

    5. Hold down the Control<\/strong> key while clicking (right click) anywhere on the toolbar, then choose Customize Toolbar<\/strong> from the menu that appears.<\/li>\n
    6. Drag the Advanced<\/strong> (gear) icon to the toolbar and click Done<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
    7. From the Type<\/strong> menu, choose Windows printer via spoolss<\/strong>. It may take a minute before the Type<\/strong> menu is visible.<\/li>\n
    8. In the URL<\/strong> field, enter the address of the print queue: smb:\/\/ist-print.bu.edu\/queue<\/strong> – substituting the name of the queue (BU-bw or BU-color). For example, smb:\/\/ist-print.bu.edu\/BU-bw<\/em>).<\/li>\n
    9. In the Name<\/strong> field, type a nickname that you would like to use for this printer (e.g. BU BW<\/em>).<\/li>\n
    10. Select Generic PostScript Printer<\/strong> in the Use<\/strong> dropdown. Then click the Add<\/strong> button.

    11. Select the Duplex Printing Unit<\/strong> option in the options window that appears, then click OK<\/strong>.

    12. Repeat the above steps for the other queue (e.g. bu-color if you created bu-bw).<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      Windows on ARM is currently not supported, printing must be done via Web Upload<\/a><\/p>\n

      1. Download the driver installation package by clicking here<\/a>.<\/li>\n
      2. Open the BU-Ricoh-Universial-Driver-v4.34.exe<\/strong> file you downloaded.<\/li>\n
      3. Click “Yes” to allow the driver to install.<\/li>\n
      4. Click “Install”.<\/li>\n
      5. Open the Start Menu and select Run<\/strong>. If you do not see the Run Program (e.g. Windows 7 users) go to Search Programs and Files<\/strong> and type Run<\/strong>. You will then be able to see it and press Enter<\/strong> to launch it.<\/li>\n
      6. In the search bar, type “\\\\ist-print.bu.edu\\BU-BW”<\/strong> and click OK<\/strong>.
