This page gives an overview on how to manage files on the SCC using OnDemand, including how to transfer files between your local machine and the SCC.<\/p>\n

Connect to SCC OnDemand. To create, edit or move files, click on the Files menu within OnDemand. A dropdown menu will appear, listing your home directory and any Project directories you have access to.<\/p>\n

Choosing a directory opens the File Explorer in a new browser tab. The files in the selected directory are listed. Your home and project directories are displayed in a panel on the left.<\/p>\n

There are three sets of buttons in the File Explorer. Buttons at the top of the window on the right (circled in red in the image above) perform these functions:<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
Open in Terminal<\/th>\nOpen a terminal window in a new browser tab with you being inside the current selected directory. You can select which login node you wish to use. To access \/restricted<\/code> directories, use scc4.bu.edu<\/code><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Refresh<\/th>\nReload the selected directory and files. <\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
New File<\/th>\nCreates a new empty file<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
New Dir<\/th>\nCreate a new subdirectory<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Upload<\/th>\nCopies a file from your local machine to the SCC (max size: 10GB – Use sftp<\/a> for larger files). This is marked by a green arrow in the image above.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Download<\/th>\nDownloads the selected file\/directory to your local machine<\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Copy\/Move<\/th>\nBrings up a new dialog box where you can select to copy or move the files, then select a destination to paste or move.<\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Delete<\/th>\nPermanently deletes the selected file\/directory.<\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

Up Arrow<\/th>\nNavigate up one directory level<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Change directory<\/th>\nBrings up a new dialog box allowing you to specify a full path<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Copy path<\/th>\nCopies the full path to the local clipboard cache<\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

Show Owner\/Mode<\/th>\nToggles the display of owner and permission settings<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Show Dotfiles<\/th>\nToggles the display of dotfiles<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Filter<\/th>\nEnables filtering of contents with any string entered in the text box<\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

View<\/th>\nA new window will open to view the file contents<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Edit<\/th>\nA new window will open to edit the file<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Rename<\/th>\nAllows renaming of the file\/directory<\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Download<\/th>\nDownloads the selected file\/directory to your local machine<\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Delete<\/th>\nPermanetly deletes the selected file\/directory<\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n
