In addition to supporting the BU research community, RCS supports the ever-increasing number of academic courses using advanced computing facilities and\/or software in their coursework. Expert RCS staff offer training and consulting and manage the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/tech\/support\/research\/computing-resources\/scc\/\">Shared Computing Cluster (SCC)<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/tech\/support\/research\/system-usage\/connect-scc\/scc-ondemand\/\">SCC OnDemand<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/tech\/support\/research\/computing-resources\/file-storage\/\">storage<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/tech\/support\/research\/software-and-programming\/software-and-applications\/\">software<\/a> resources. BU has acquired 384 compute cores and 16 GPUs to support academic courses. These <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/tech\/support\/research\/academic-support\/scc-course-resources\/\">SCC Course Resources<\/a><\/strong> are integrated into the SCC and are managed by RCS. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/tech\/support\/research\/academic-support\/managing-scc-course-project\/\"><strong>SCC Course Projects<\/strong><\/a> are automatically given priority access to this resource. RCS staff are available for <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/tech\/support\/research\/academic-support\/training-consulting\/\">training and consulting<\/a><\/strong> in support of your course.<\/p>\n<h2>Academic Support Features<\/h2>\n<p>Faculty may use any or all of the services listed here for your course(s). Please follow the guidelines in the Checklist to get access to them.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h4><strong>Accessing the SCC:<\/strong><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/tech\/support\/research\/system-usage\/connect-scc\/scc-ondemand\/\">SCC OnDemand<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Batch system including priority access to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/tech\/support\/research\/academic-support\/scc-course-resources\/\">SCC Course Resources<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Automated student account creation and deletion<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/tech\/support\/research\/computing-resources\/file-storage\/proj-diskspace\/\">Project Disk<\/a> organization structure<\/li>\n<li>Access to the web server (replacement for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/tech\/services\/cccs\/websites\/class\/\">class.bu.edu<\/a>)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h4><strong>In-classroom training<\/strong><\/h4>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h4><strong>Academic Software<\/strong><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>For Machine Learning (ML) courses using Python, we have a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/tech\/support\/research\/software-and-programming\/common-languages\/python\/python-ml\/academic-machine-learning-environment\/\">module available<\/a> to make it easier for your students to use ML software on the SCC<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 aria-hidden=\"true\"><strong>Back-to-School Checklist<\/strong><a name=\"BACKTOSCHOOL\" href=\"#BACKTOSCHOOL\">&#x1F517;<\/a><\/h2>\n<p><!-- This h2 is not included in the accessibility tree and therefore ignored by the rule -->Faculty, please follow these guidelines <strong>two weeks before the semester starts<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Each semester<\/strong>, in order to have your <strong>students added to your SCC course project<\/strong>, you must fill in the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/tech\/support\/research\/academic-support\/intake-form\/\">semesterly course request form<\/a><\/strong>.  This will give us the information we need to add your students and also lets you request instruction for your TAs and\/or students.<strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Clean up your old SCC Project or <a href=\"https:\/\/acct.bu.edu\/SCF\/Academic\/NewCourseProject.html\">create a new course project<\/a> if you don&#8217;t already have one. If you are new to using the SCC, please also read up on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/tech\/support\/research\/account-management\/manage-project\/\">SCC project management<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Have your T.A.\/T.F. contact us at <a href=\"mailto:help@scc.bu.edu\">help@scc.bu.edu<\/a> <strong>to get trained<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>If a customized in-classroom workshop is needed, send email to <a href=\"mailto:help@scc.bu.edu\">help@scc.bu.edu<\/a> to request a meeting to discuss it.<\/li>\n<li>Test the software and workflows you plan to use in your course and, if needed, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/tech\/support\/research\/software-and-programming\/software-and-applications\/request-software\/\">request software<\/a> two weeks before the beginning of the semester.<\/li>\n<li>Please include the following statement in your course syllabus:<br \/>\n<strong>&#8220;Student questions, requests for software installations, or problems regarding SCC usage should be handled first by the course instructor and\/or TA\/TF.
