With flexible grading, you can:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Easily review the status of your grading tasks and prioritize your time where it is needed most.<\/li>\n<li>Provide inline, multimedia feedback direct to students.<\/li>\n<li>Easily access grading rubrics, anti-plagiarism checkers, and more as you work through your grading tasks.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Where to Start Grading:<\/strong><\/h4>\n<ol>\n<li><span class=\"emphasize\"><strong>Grades page<\/strong>:<span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>The Grades page provides immediate access to all your courses&#8217; grading tasks.\u00a0From the navigation bar, select<span>\u00a0<\/span><strong><span class=\"emphasize\">Grades<\/span><\/strong>. On the Grades page, grading tasks are organized by course, so you can quickly scan your progress, set priorities across the board, and even begin grading. No need to navigate to each course to see what&#8217;s ready for grading.The page only displays information if you need to take action. You see assignments that are ready to grade or overdue for students.<\/li>\n<li><span class=\"emphasize\"><strong>Activity stream<\/strong>:<span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>You&#8217;re alerted when student submissions are ready for grading. Select the link to go directly to the Submissions page for the assignment. The Submissions page is filtered is filtered to only show students who need grading.<\/li>\n<li><span class=\"emphasize\"><strong>Submissions tab of an assignment<\/strong>:<\/span><span>\u00a0<\/span>When you access an assignment, the Submissions tab displays all students enrolled in your course. You can search for a student by name or student ID or use the<span>\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"emphasize\">Grading Status<\/span><span>\u00a0<\/span>filter to display only those submissions that need grading.<\/li>\n<li><span class=\"emphasize\"><strong>Gradebook<\/strong>:<\/span>\u00a0From a course, select the Gradebook tab on the navigation bar. You can choose a gradebook view:\n<ul>\n<li><span>From the grid view\u00a0<\/span>From the Gradebook tab, select the<span>\u00a0<\/span><strong><span class=\"emphasize\">Grid view<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0button. \u00a0From the grid view, you can see your roster of students who submitted new work. When a student has a new item to grade, select<span>\u00a0<\/span><strong><span class=\"emphasize\">New Submission<\/span>,\u00a0<span class=\"emphasize\">View<\/span><\/strong> to access the grading page for the submission.<\/li>\n<li>From the list viewFrom the Gradebook tab, select the<span>\u00a0<\/span><strong><span class=\"emphasize\">List view<\/span>\u00a0<\/strong>button with three horizontal lines, and then select the <strong>Gradable Items<\/strong> tab. You can sort assignments in this view by<span>\u00a0<\/span><strong><span class=\"emphasize\">Grading Status<\/span><\/strong>. Graded work is labelled<span>\u00a0<\/span><strong><span class=\"emphasize\">All Graded<\/span><\/strong><span>\u00a0<\/span>or<span>\u00a0<\/span><strong><span class=\"emphasize\">Complete<\/span><\/strong>. \u00a0Select the name of the assignment or<span class=\"emphasize\"><span>\u00a0<\/span><strong>X to grade<\/strong><\/span><span>\u00a0<\/span>to access the Submissions page. The Submissions page will have the<span>\u00a0<\/span><strong><span class=\"emphasize\">Needs Grading<\/span><\/strong><span>\u00a0<\/span>filter applied. Select a student name to start grading a submission.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Grade an Assignment Submission<\/strong><\/h4>\n<div class=\"paragraph paragraph--type--basic-content-paragraph paragraph--view-mode--default\">\n<div class=\"field field--name-field-content field--type-text-long field--label-hidden field__item\">\n<p>Select an assignment to grade to access the <strong>Submissions<\/strong> page. Then select a student to open the grading page.<\/p>\n<div data-embed-button=\"media_browser\" data-entity-embed-display=\"view_mode:media.embedded\" data-entity-embed-display-settings=\"[]\" data-entity-type=\"media\" data-entity-uuid=\"e2faf5d6-278b-4547-8055-1fd9f07c6cda\" data-langcode=\"en\" class=\"embedded-entity\">\n<div>\n<div class=\"field field--name-image field--type-image field--label-hidden field__items\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/help.blackboard.com\/sites\/default\/files\/images\/2023-11\/Flex-grading-Assignment-Submission_0.png\" width=\"593\" height=\"326\" alt=\"A student's submission in Flexible grading\" class=\"\" \/><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>From this page, you have several options:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Students panel<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Expand\u00a0the Students panel\u00a0to view the list of students who submitted an assignment. \u00a0Collapse the panel to view\u00a0more of the submission.<\/li>\n<li>Use the<span>\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"emphasize\">Grading Status<\/span><span>\u00a0<\/span>filter to display all students or select the<span>\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"emphasize\">Needs Grading<\/span><span>\u00a0<\/span>filter to focus on remaining grading work.<\/li>\n<li>If a student has accommodations, a purple pill appears next to their name.<\/li>\n<li>If a student has late submissions or the due date passed with no attempt submitted,\u00a0a red circle appears around their profile picture.<\/li>\n<li>When ready, you can select<span>\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"emphasize\">Post Grades<\/span><span>\u00a0<\/span>to post grades for all graded students.<br \/>\n<em>Note: If you enabled anonymous grading, all student names are masked.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Grade information<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>If the assessment is configured to allow multiple submission attempts, you can select which attempt\u00a0to grade.<\/li>\n<li>After grading,\u00a0you can view grades for each attempt and the final grade for the submission.<\/li>\n<li>Use the menu next to the final grade to post the student&#8217;s final grade or delete their attempt.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Submission\u00a0information<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>View the submission receipt number and\u00a0time stamp.<\/li>\n<li>Use<span>\u00a0<\/span>BB Annotate\u00a0options on the menu bar for inline grading &amp; commenting of the submission.<\/li>\n<li>Show or hide the assessment content displayed to a student when they attempt a submission.<\/li>\n<li>If the student submitted more than one file, they appear on separate tabs you can move between.<br \/>\n<em>Note: When grading from a tablet, only one of the side panels will be open at any time. Accessing one panel will collapse the other.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"paragraph paragraph--type--basic-content-paragraph paragraph--view-mode--default\">\n<div class=\"field field--name-field-content field--type-text-long field--label-hidden field__item\">\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Feedback panel<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Expand\u00a0or\u00a0collapse the feedback and rubrics side panel to add feedback\u00a0for the attempt or grade with a<span>\u00a0<\/span>rubric<span>\u00a0<\/span>(if one is available).<\/li>\n<li>When you post grades, students can view feedback you provided for each attempt, including ungraded attempts.<\/li>\n<li>You can<span>\u00a0<\/span>embed an audio or video recording of your feedback<span>\u00a0<\/span>in the editor as you grade attempts. The recording option appears in the feedback editor for most graded items in your course. Students watch or listen to your feedback alongside any text you include.<br \/>\n<em>Note: This feature isn&#8217;t supported on all browsers. For the best experience, use Chrome or Firefox.\u00a0<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"paragraph paragraph--type--basic-content-paragraph paragraph--view-mode--default\">\n<div class=\"field field--name-field-content field--type-text-long field--label-hidden field__item\">\n<div><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4 class=\"blackboard-user-sentiment\"><strong>Grade an Assignment with Multiple Attempts<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>When you create an assignment, you can choose to<span>\u00a0<\/span>let students submit more than one attempt. Multiple attempts change how the assignment&#8217;s final grade is automatically calculated. Choose how you want to calculate the final grade:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Average of all attempts<\/li>\n<li>First attempt with a grade<\/li>\n<li>Attempt with highest grade<\/li>\n<li>Last attempt with a grade<\/li>\n<li>Attempt with lowest grade<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If the student has made multiple submission attempts, you can select which attempt you want to grade. In the attempt dropdown menu, you can view the attempt number, the submission time stamp, and the grade for each submission made.<\/p>\n<p class=\"important\"><em>Note: You can&#8217;t allow multiple attempts on a group assignment or when you collect submissions offline.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The<span>\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"emphasize\">Grade attempts<\/span><span>\u00a0<\/span>setting determines how the final grade is automatically calculated, but you have the option to override the final grade. Each attempt is subject to the due date you set for the assignment. If a student submits an attempt after the due date, the attempt is marked late. Attempts submitted before the deadline are shown as on time.<\/p>\n<p>You can only override the final grade, not the grades for each attempt.\u00a0If you assign an override grade without grading the student&#8217;s first attempt, the attempt displays a<span>\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"emphasize\">Needs Grading<\/span><span>\u00a0<\/span>status. An override label appears next to the grade.<\/p>\n<p class=\"important\"><em>Note: When you post grades, students can view them and any feedback you provided. All feedback for all attempts, even ungraded attempts, shows to students. If you used a rubric or questions that are scored automatically, the grade may already exist for the attempt.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4 class=\"blackboard-user-sentiment\"><strong>Final Grades<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>The final grade for a multiple attempt assignment is calculated based on the<span>\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"emphasize\">Grade Attempts<\/span><span>\u00a0<\/span>setting you chose in the Assignment Settings. In the panel that lists a student&#8217;s attempts, the final grade appears when those attempts are graded. For example, if the final grade is calculated based on the highest graded attempt, the final grade appears immediately after at least one attempt is graded. However, the grade may change as you continue grading more attempts. After you finish grading the attempts, you can post the final grade for the student to see.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What do students see?\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Assignments with multiple attempts list the number of attempts allowed, as well as how the final grade is calculated. Students view this information on the Details &amp; Information page before they begin. When grades are posted, students can view grades for each of their attempts, as well as the final grade. If you decide to override the final grade, a message appears to let the student know.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"paragraph paragraph--type--basic-content-paragraph paragraph--view-mode--default\">\n<div class=\"field field--name-field-content field--type-text-long field--label-hidden field__item\">\n<div><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4 class=\"blackboard-user-sentiment\"><strong>Grade an Assignment with a Time Limit<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>When you allow students to work past the time limit for an assignment, you&#8217;re able to view which assignments exceeded the time limit. If you added questions, you can also view how many questions were answered after the time limit.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4 class=\"blackboard-user-sentiment\"><strong>Post Grades<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p><span class=\"emphasize\">Post<span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>appears next to each grade you haven&#8217;t released yet. You can choose which grades to post and when. Posted grades appear with a<span>\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"emphasize\">Posted<span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>message in the column. You can also grade all submissions for an item in succession and then select<span>\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"emphasize\">Post all grades<\/span><span>\u00a0<\/span>to release all grades in one action.<\/p>\n<p class=\"tip\"><em>Note: When you post grades, students can view feedback you provided for each attempt, including ungraded attempts.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"bu_collapsible_container \" id=\"Gradable-Items-List\" aria-live=\"polite\" data-customize-animation=\"false\"><h3 class=\"bu_collapsible\" aria-expanded=\"false\"tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\">Gradable Items List &amp; Students List<\/h3><div class=\"bu_collapsible_section\" style=\"display: none;\"><\/p>\n<p><strong>Gradable Items List<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The<span>\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"interface\">Gradable Items<\/span><span>\u00a0<\/span>list is the default view of the course Gradebook. You can view all the coursework you&#8217;ve assigned and the grading progress for the assignments, as well as change any settings.<\/p>\n<p>You can<span>\u00a0<\/span>switch to the<span>\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"interface\">Students<\/span><span>\u00a0<\/span>tab<span> (by clicking &#8220;Students&#8221; next to &#8220;Gradable Items&#8221;) <\/span>to view an overall picture of each student\u2019s engagement.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/help.blackboard.com\/sites\/default\/files\/images\/2021-08\/UCOGradableList.png\" width=\"521\" height=\"273\" class=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Automatically Created Grade Items<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>When you create a gradable item in your course, a gradebook item is created automatically. From the<span>\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"interface\">Gradable Items<\/span><span>\u00a0<\/span>list, you can drag an item to a new location in the list.<\/p>\n<div data-embed-button=\"media_browser\" data-entity-embed-display=\"view_mode:media.embedded\" data-entity-type=\"media\" data-entity-uuid=\"88a924f6-18b9-46b7-b23b-49d2b4512800\" data-langcode=\"en\" class=\"embedded-entity\">\n<div>\n<div class=\"field field--name-image field--type-image field--label-hidden field__items\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/help.blackboard.com\/sites\/default\/files\/images\/2020-11\/automaticallygradeitems.png\" width=\"237\" height=\"328\" alt=\"\" typeof=\"foaf:Image\" \/><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>If you open attendance from the<span>\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"interface\">Course Content<\/span><span>\u00a0<\/span>page, you can add attendance to your gradebook. You can also add attendance on the main<span>\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"interface\">Gradebook<\/span><span>\u00a0<\/span>page. Select the plus sign wherever you want the attendance row to appear in the list and select<span>\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"interface\">Add Attendance<\/span>.<\/p>\n<div class=\"blackboard-user-sentiment\"><strong>Manually Added Grade Items<\/strong><\/div>\n<p>You can add grade items that don&#8217;t require submissions such as participation. These grade items are also called<span>\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"emphasize\">manual grades<\/span>,<span>\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"emphasize\">manually created items<\/span>, or<span>\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"emphasize\">offline items<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>For manually added items, no submissions exist. You assign scores and feedback on the student list page.<\/p>\n<div data-embed-button=\"media_browser\" data-entity-embed-display=\"view_mode:media.embedded\" data-entity-type=\"media\" data-entity-uuid=\"c8b18564-f55a-4d31-821b-a6b287cfb8f6\" data-langcode=\"en\" class=\"embedded-entity\">\n<div>\n<div class=\"field field--name-image field--type-image field--label-hidden field__items\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/help.blackboard.com\/sites\/default\/files\/images\/2020-08\/ultra_instructor_gradebook_manual_grade.png\" width=\"531\" height=\"289\" alt=\"\" typeof=\"foaf:Image\" class=\"\" \/><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Manually added items don&#8217;t appear on the<span>\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"interface\">Course Content<\/span><span>\u00a0<\/span>page. The items do appear on students&#8217; global and course grade pages. You can&#8217;t add files, rubrics, goals, or groups to manually added items.<\/p>\n<p>In your course gradebook, you can add a new item in the<span>\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"interface\">Gradable Items<\/span><span>\u00a0<\/span>list or student grid view.<\/p>\n<div data-embed-button=\"media_browser\" data-entity-embed-display=\"view_mode:media.embedded\" data-entity-type=\"media\" data-entity-uuid=\"f2e8d7f6-3aa5-4635-a5aa-67e05fddab34\" data-langcode=\"en\" class=\"embedded-entity\">\n<div>\n<div class=\"field field--name-image field--type-image field--label-hidden field__items\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/help.blackboard.com\/sites\/default\/files\/images\/2020-11\/gradebookadditem.png\" width=\"638\" height=\"422\" alt=\"\" typeof=\"foaf:Image\" class=\"\" \/><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<ol>\n<li>Select the plus sign wherever you want to add an item and select<strong>\u00a0<span class=\"interface\">Add Item<\/span><\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>In the panel, type a title. The title has a limit of 255 characters. If you don&#8217;t add a title, &#8220;New Item&#8221; and the date appear in the list.<\/li>\n<li>Optionally, make the item visible to students.<\/li>\n<li>Provide the details, such as a description and a grade unit. You can choose points, percentage, or letter. If you choose points, specify the maximum number of points possible. A due date is optional.<\/li>\n<li>Optionally, add the new item to a category to use when you create calculations.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Managing Grades in the Gradable Items List<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><span>Select an item&#8217;s title to see what students&#8217; submissions need grading and which haven&#8217;t received their grades yet. <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>Inside the submissions list for a gradable item, use the <\/span><span class=\"interface\">Filter<\/span><span>\u00a0menu to display only those submissions that need grading. <\/span>\n<ul>\n<li><span>At this time, you can filter by\u00a0<\/span><strong><span class=\"interface\">All statuses<\/span><\/strong><span>\u00a0and\u00a0<\/span><strong><span class=\"interface\">Needs grading<\/span><\/strong><span>.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><span class=\"interface\">In the submissions list, different statuses will appear for each student. <em>Complete<\/em><\/span><span>\u00a0indicates you have no outstanding grading tasks for that item.\u00a0<\/span><em><span class=\"interface\">All graded<\/span><\/em><span>\u00a0appears when all submitted attempts are graded and posted, but some students haven&#8217;t submitted work yet and don&#8217;t have grades.<\/span><\/li>\n<li>You can add items to the Gradable Items list by clicking the &#8220;+&#8221; symbol above or below an item.\n<ul>\n<li><strong><span class=\"interface\">Add Item<\/span><\/strong>: Add a row for coursework, such as a participation grade. Your title is limited to 255 characters. Choose the grade unit, such as points or letter.<\/li>\n<li><strong><span class=\"interface\">Add Calculation<\/span><\/strong>: Add a row for a calculation, such as an average assignments grade.<\/li>\n<li><strong><span class=\"interface\">Add Attendance<\/span><\/strong>: Add a row for attendance. After you add attendance, the add option won&#8217;t appear in the menu again.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>In the Gradable Items list, rearrange items by pressing the two-paired-arrows icon in the row of the item you want to move. This icon won&#8217;t be visible unless you mouse over the desired item row at the far right end of it. Drag the item to the new location and release. For the\u00a0<\/span><strong><span class=\"interface\">Overall Grade<\/span><\/strong><span>\u00a0column, you need to\u00a0<\/span>set up the overall grade<span>\u00a0for grades to appear in the grade pills. You can sort the list in ascending, descending or default order by clicking the corresponding column header arrow icon.<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li><span>You can also sort the list by column selecting the arrow\u00a0icon next to a column&#8217;s name. Select the\u00a0<\/span><strong><span class=\"interface\">Settings<\/span><\/strong><span><strong>\u00a0icon<\/strong> to access the\u00a0<\/span><strong><span class=\"interface\">Gradebook Settings<\/span><\/strong><span>\u00a0panel.<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><span>From the\u00a0<\/span><strong><span class=\"interface\">Gradebook Settings<\/span><\/strong><span>\u00a0panel, you can manage <strong>Grade Schemas<\/strong> and <strong>Grade Categories<\/strong>, add <strong>Automatic Zeros<\/strong> and establish <strong>Student Performance<\/strong> settings.<\/span><\/li>\n<li>From the <strong>Student Performance <\/strong>section, you can adjust the activity performance criteria required to receive alerts in your activity stream such as<span>\u00a0<\/span><em><span class=\"variable\">days of inactivity<\/span>\u00a0<\/em>or <em>limit\u00a0<\/em><span class=\"variable\"><em>percentage<\/em> grades<\/span><span>\u00a0<\/span>and, in turn, send those alerts to students. The link to<span>\u00a0<\/span><strong><span class=\"variable\">View class performance<\/span><\/strong><span>\u00a0<\/span>behavioral graphic is visible only for those courses with enough data to populate it. Select<span>\u00a0<\/span><strong><span class=\"variable\">View class performance<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0to open the corresponding graphic and the list of students for the course. You can in turn select any student to check on an\u00a0individual performance.<\/li>\n<li><span>You can\u00a0<\/span>make changes to the default <strong>Grading Schema<\/strong><span>. You can also view the gradebook categories and\u00a0<\/span>create and manage rubrics<span>. In addition, you are able to create and manage grade notations to override a student&#8217;s overall grade and assign automatic zeros.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/help.blackboard.com\/sites\/default\/files\/images\/2020-11\/ultra_gradebook_settings_schemas_expanded.png\" width=\"436\" height=\"303\" class=\"\" \/><br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span>When you create a gradable item, it automatically appears in the gradebook and is associated with the appropriate category. You can use categories when you create calculated items, such as an assignments average.<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><span>You can create new categories to customize how coursework is grouped in your course. You can use custom categories when you\u00a0<\/span>set up the overall grade<span>.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>To create a new gradebook category, select the\u00a0<\/span><strong><span class=\"interface\">Settings<\/span><\/strong><span><strong>\u00a0icon<\/strong>. In the\u00a0<\/span><strong><span class=\"interface\">Gradebook Settings<\/span><\/strong><span>\u00a0panel, select\u00a0<\/span><strong><span class=\"interface\">Add New Category<\/span><\/strong><span>\u00a0and type a name.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/help.blackboard.com\/sites\/default\/files\/images\/2018-09\/ultra_instructor_gradebook_settings_new_category.png\" width=\"201\" height=\"368\" class=\"\" \/><br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>Each time you create a graded item in your course, you have the option to change the grade category so the item is grouped into one of the custom gradebook categories. On the\u00a0<\/span><strong><span class=\"interface\">Gradebook Settings<\/span><\/strong><span>\u00a0panel, select the custom category in the\u00a0<\/span><strong><span class=\"interface\">Grade Categories<\/span><\/strong><span>\u00a0menu.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>You can choose to automatically assign zeros to missing work past the due date. Students and groups can still submit work after an automatic zero is assigned. Then, you can grade as normal. After you enable this setting, you don&#8217;t have to go through your gradebook to manually assign zeros. The automatic zeros setting applies to these graded items:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Assignments and group assignments<\/li>\n<li>Tests and group tests<\/li>\n<li>Graded individual and group discussions<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ol>\n<li><span>In the\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"interface\">Gradebook<\/span><span>, select the\u00a0<\/span><strong><span class=\"interface\">Settings<\/span><\/strong><span><strong>\u00a0icon<\/strong> to access the\u00a0<\/span><strong><span class=\"interface\">Gradebook Settings<\/span><\/strong><span>\u00a0panel. Select the\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"interface\"><strong>Assign automatic zeros for past due work<\/strong><\/span><span>\u00a0check box.<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li>This setting is enabled by default.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><span>Select\u00a0<\/span><strong><span class=\"interface\">Assign Zeros<\/span><\/strong><span>. All past due work will receive automatic zeros. Affected students\u2019 point totals will update.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>In list view, students&#8217; grade pills display &#8220;0&#8221; when no submissions exist and the due date has passed. The label\u00a0<\/span><em><span class=\"interface\">Automatic zero<\/span><\/em><span><em>\u00a0<\/em>appears next to the grade pills. The label\u00a0<\/span><em><span class=\"interface\">Complete<\/span><\/em><span>\u00a0also appears as you have nothing to grade.\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"emphasize\">Automatic zeros are posted automatically<\/span><span>.<br \/>\n<\/span><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/help.blackboard.com\/sites\/default\/files\/images\/2018-09\/ultra_instructor_assign_zeros_discusion.png\" width=\"422\" height=\"227\" class=\"\" \/><\/li>\n<li><span>Students can submit late to update their grades. You may want to include how late work is graded in item instructions or your syllabus. When a student submits after the due date, the automatic zero is removed. A late label appears with the submission date and time.<br \/>\n<img src=\"https:\/\/help.blackboard.com\/sites\/default\/files\/images\/2018-09\/ultra_instructor_assign_zeros_late_work.png\" \/><br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<li>You can disable the automatic zeros setting at any time. In the<span>\u00a0<\/span><strong><span class=\"interface\">Gradebook Settings<\/span><\/strong><span>\u00a0<\/span>panel, clear the automatic zeros check box.
