There is no limit to the number of co-hosts you can have in a meeting.<\/p>\n<p>A co-host can perform tasks like:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Start and stop recordings<\/li>\n<li>Manage in-meeting security features<\/li>\n<li>Admit participants from the waiting room<\/li>\n<li>Manage participants, including muting microphones or lowering hands<\/li>\n<li>Share their screen, even when participants are not allowed to do so<\/li>\n<li>Start and manage breakout rooms if both the host and co-host are using Zoom 5.4.6 or higher<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Co-hosts cannot, however, start a meeting on behalf of the host.<\/p>\n<h3>Alternative Hosts<\/h3>\n<p>Alternative Hosts provide authorized individuals the ability to start a meeting on the host&#8217;s behalf. If an alternative host starts a meeting, they will receive the same privileges as the original host. If the host already started the meeting, the alternative host will join as a co-host automatically.<\/p>\n<p>There are a few limitations to note:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Alternative hosts must be licensed Zoom users.<\/li>\n<li>An alternative host must be a member of the same Zoom account as the host.\n<ul>\n<li>In other words, you cannot designate someone from another institution as an alternative host.<\/li>\n<li>Starting March 18th, 2025, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/tech\/services\/cccs\/conf\/online\/zoom\/zoom-hipaa\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Zoom Meetings for HIPAA<\/a> members <em>can<\/em> be designated as alternative hosts in standard Zoom meetings.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Alternative hosts will receive an email with instructions for starting a meeting from Zoom automatically.<br \/>\n<a name=\"cohost\"><\/a><\/p>\n<h2>Designating Co-Hosts<\/h2>\n<p>Hosts can designate or remove co-hosts at any time in a meeting. To make someone a co-host:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Click the &#8220;Participants&#8221; button in your meeting control bar.<\/li>\n<li>Hover over the name of the desired co-host.<\/li>\n<li>Click the &#8220;More&#8221; button.<\/li>\n<li>Select &#8220;Make Co-host&#8221; from the menu that appears.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/tech\/files\/2020\/08\/zoom-make-co-host.png\" alt=\"Zoom participant options menu with &quot;make co-host&quot; highlighted\" class=\"wp-image-130664 aligncenter\" width=\"230\" height=\"182\" \/><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>To remove a co-host, follow the steps above, selecting &#8220;Withdraw Co-host Permission&#8221; instead.<br \/>\n<a name=\"althost\"><\/a><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: left;\">Designating Alternative Hosts<\/h2>\n<p>Alternative hosts can be designated when scheduling or editing a meeting.<\/p>\n<h4>Using the Zoom Website or Blackboard<\/h4>\n<p>When scheduling or editing a meeting, scroll to the right to find the &#8220;Show&#8221; button next to the &#8220;Options&#8221; section,\u00a0 and click it.
