Please follow these\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/tech\/support\/google\/enable\/\">instructions<\/a>\u00a0on TechWeb to activate your your account.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Once you\u2019ve enabled your account, login to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/google\">BU Google Apps<\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0or visit the <a href=\"https:\/\/meet.google.com\/\">Google Meet page<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Browser Requirements<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Google Meet, and the entire G Suite of Apps, works best using the current version of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/chrome\">Google Chrome<\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Meet also works with the current versions of\u00a0 <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mozilla.org\/firefox\/new\/\">Mozilla Firefox,\u00a0<\/a><\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/microsoft.com\/edge\">Microsoft Edge<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/support.apple.com\/downloads\/safari\">Apple Safari<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Visit the Google&#8217;s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/support.google.com\/a\/users\/answer\/7317473\">Hangouts Meet requirements page<\/a> for complete\u00a0video meeting requirements.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Tip:<\/strong> If your browser doesn&#8217;t support Meet video meetings, you can dial in using the phone number and PIN, if provided by the meeting organizer.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Scheduling a Meet in Google Calendar<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you are regularly meeting with a group, it is recommended using Google Calendar to create regular meeting times. You can link your Exchange, Google, and iCal calendars by following <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/tech\/z-retired-pages\/exchange-and-google\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">these instructions<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Make sure you are logged into your BU Google Account. <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Navigate to your <a href=\"https:\/\/calendar.google.com\/\">Google Calendar.<\/a>\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/calendar.google.com\/\" aria-label=\"Link opens the Google Calendar\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To create a new meeting, click the <strong>Create button<\/strong>\u00a0in the top left of your screen. A pop-up window will appear over your calendar. Click <strong>More Options<\/strong>\u00a0for full screen.<br style=\"clear: both;\" \/>\u00a0<img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/tech\/files\/2020\/03\/GCreate.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"250\" height=\"100\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-126183\" \/><\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To schedule a meeting,\u00a0 click <strong>Add Conferencing<\/strong>\u00a0and select <strong>Hangouts Meet<\/strong>. This will automatically generate a meeting link.<br style=\"clear: both;\" \/><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/tech\/files\/2020\/03\/GConferencing-636x232.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"250\" height=\"91\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-126182\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/tech\/files\/2020\/03\/GConferencing-636x232.png 636w, https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/tech\/files\/2020\/03\/GConferencing.png 643w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 250px) 100vw, 250px\" \/> <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You can invite guests to your meeting within Google Calendar by adding each participant\u2019s email. Refer to this guide for more information on <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/support.google.com\/calendar\/answer\/37161?hl=en&amp;ref_topic=1672471\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">inviting users to a Hangouts Meet via Google Calendar<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/span>Note the following:<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Guests do not need a google account to receive to a Google Calendar event.\u00a0They will receive a link to their email account.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Participants can <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/support.google.com\/meet\/answer\/9518557?hl=en&amp;ref_topic=7192926\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">also use their phone to call into the Google Meeting<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. The event creator will need to provide participants with the meeting dial-in number and pin number.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Settings for Google Meet<\/span><\/h2>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Joining a Google Meet<\/span><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Guests joining into a Google Meet will arrive at a splash screen where they can set their audio and video options before joining the call.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cameras and audio settings will automatically be turned on.\u00a0 <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Notify your guests of this ahead of time and establish protocols for meeting etiquette. <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is recommended that users at least mute their microphones before joining a meeting and to keep them muted unless they are speaking.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You will not be able to organize breakout sessions using Google Meet.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Audio and Video Settings<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Users can toggle audio on or off by clicking the microphone icon in the bottom toolbar.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Video can be turned on or off by clicking the camera icon. <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Disconnect from the call by clicking\u00a0 the phone icon .\u00a0<br style=\"clear: both;\" \/><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/tech\/files\/2020\/03\/GIcons.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"250\" height=\"72\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-126181\" \/>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Additional Google Meet Settings<\/h3>\n<div class=\"bu_collapsible_container \" aria-live=\"polite\" data-customize-animation=\"false\"><h3 class=\"bu_collapsible\" aria-expanded=\"false\"tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\">Lean about additional Google Meet settings<\/h3><div class=\"bu_collapsible_section\" style=\"display: none;\">\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Users can access a number of different settings within the Google Meet app. Most of these options are accessible on the right side of the screen. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the lower right you can access the following settings: <\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Toggling Closed Captioning<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Screen Share Options<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Layout Options<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Full Screen<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Settings<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Problem Reporting<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Help<br style=\"clear: both;\" \/><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/tech\/files\/2020\/03\/GMenu.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"250\" height=\"267\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-126180\" \/><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\nIf audio or video is not working, the user may need to allow Google Meet to access their camera and\/or microphone. To chnage this setting:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Click the <strong>three vertical dots icon<\/strong> in\u00a0the bottom right corner of the Google Meet window<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">C<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">lick the <strong>Settings<\/strong>\u00a0tab.<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Select your audio and video options.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Layout Options<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Google Meet has a variety of layout options which can be accessed through the <strong>Change Layout<\/strong> option:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Auto: Allows Meet to choose the layout for you.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tiled: Shows up to 4 video feeds in equal size when there is no presentation. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If there\u2019s a presentation, it fills the window with up to 3 participants on the side.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Spotlight: The presentation, active speaker, or pinned feed fills the window.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sidebar: You see the active speaker or presentation with additional participants on the side.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Present Now<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Present Now button enables participants to screen share with the rest of the call. You can share your entire screen or a selected window with the other participants.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Note: <\/strong>Depending on your computer\u2019s security settings, you may need to allow your browser to share your screen. Sometimes a browser restart is required in order to refresh permissions.<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Participant and Chat Functions<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the upper right of the Google Meet app, users can access participant and chat functions. Clicking either the participant or chat button opens a sidebar on the right side of the window, where users can view all participants in the call and access a text chat accessible to all users.<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Google Meet (formerly Google Hangouts) can support video calls for up to 250 participants using GSuite for Education.
