Windows Virtual Labs can be customized to meet a variety of needs, including access to specialized applications.<\/p>\n<h2>Benefits<\/h2>\n<p>Windows Virtual Labs provides access to a scalable, flexible, and securely managed pool of virtual Windows desktops. Virtual Labs are configured and maintained for you, reducing time and effort related to maintaining a physical lab. Virtual desktops ensure users are presented with the same experience each time they log in.<\/p>\n<h2>Key Features<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>High availability access to Windows based applications.<\/li>\n<li>Scalable desktop performance for demanding applications.<\/li>\n<li>Central management of patches and security updates.<\/li>\n<li>Azure Virtual Desktop supports virtualizing both full desktops or individual applications.\n<ul>\n<li>Full Desktops offer a familiar Windows environment that can be fully customized with installed applications or security policies to meet your needs.\u00a0This service\u00a0ensures users are presented with the same\u00a0experience each time they log in.<\/li>\n<li>Virtualized Applications allow for Windows applications to run on a wide variety of devices, including Windows, Mac, iOS, and Android. The applications are available from anywhere and are maintained centrally.<\/li>\n<li>Customizations, software installations (with appropriate license), upgrades, or modifications to your pool can be accommodated by requesting changes from IS&amp;T.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Virtual Desktops can be sized appropriately to your specific application, ranging from small, efficient machines to high performance, graphics-heavy instances. Access to a virtual pool can be restricted by security group as needed.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>What to Expect<\/h2>\n<p>IS&amp;T employs a change management policy that governs planned changes that will disrupt, or have the potential to disrupt, services. Virtual Desktop services are normally available 24\/7 except for standard change windows, as described in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/tech\/about\/service\/change\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">IS&amp;T\u2019s standard policies, procedures, and schedules for making changes<\/a>. You will receive notice at least three days in advance of a planned outage. In the event of an unplanned outage, every effort will be made to provide timely notification.<\/p>\n<h2>Requirements<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Request must be supported by a school, college, department, or research project.<\/li>\n<li>An active BU login name and Kerberos password.<\/li>\n<li>Microsoft Remote Desktop application, available for Windows, Mac, iOS, and Android.
