What should I know before activating the new device?<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>While some carriers will move some applications to an upgraded device, many pictures, ringtones, songs, and media will not transfer and will need to be copied or reloaded.<\/li>\n<li>Contacts will not transfer on phones automatically.<\/li>\n<li>If you ask\u00a0IS&amp;T to activate the new device, we will coordinate the time with you to make the transfer as quick as possible to minimize the time you are without service. The old device needs to be turned off in most cases for the service to be moved.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong><a name=\"itunes\"><\/a>If I get an iPhone do I have to have an AppleID?<br \/>\n<\/strong>No, you do not need an AppleID account to activate or use the iPhone. If you require certain apps from the App Store, they can be purchased through departmental funds and deployed to your device.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a name=\"disposal\"><\/a>What should I do when getting rid of my old device?<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Before you get rid of your old device, make sure all personal data is wiped from the memory.\u00a0 This includes contacts, email, and text messages.\u00a0 There are various ways to accomplish this depending on the device and carrier.\u00a0 Please contact us at 617-353-HELP (4357)\u00a0or <a href=\"mailto:phone@bu.edu\">ithelp@bu.edu<\/a> for more information on how to clear your particular device.<\/li>\n<li>The old device should be turned in to your department administrator.\u00a0 If the device is still in good condition they may wish to use it for someone else.\u00a0 If it is in good condition, you may also send it to\u00a0the IS&amp;T Help Center\u00a0at 179 Amory Street (West Campus)\u00a0to be re-issued.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong><a name=\"backupiphone\"><\/a>How do I backup my iPhone?<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>You will need to know your Apple ID password in order to sign into iCloud, as well as back up your current iPhone. To recover forgotten passwords please visit <span><a title=\"Apple Password Recovery Page\" href=\"http:\/\/iforgot.apple.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">iforgot.apple.com<i class=\"icon-external-link external\"><\/i><\/a><\/span>.Further information on recovering your Apple ID and password can be found on <span><a href=\"https:\/\/support.apple.com\/en-us\/HT201487\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Apple\u2019s login page<i class=\"icon-external-link external\"><\/i><\/a><\/span>.<\/li>\n<li>5GB of storage come free with all iCloud subscriptions.
