<\/p>\n

Training session attendees periodically mention\u00a0me\u00a0that the workshop pace was too fast\/slow or the\u00a0curriculum was too basic\/advanced. That’s the price of doing business when offering any introductory-level training course: it’s difficult to find a sweet spot in which\u00a0everyone’s needs are perfectly met. Some people come into a session knowing more than others, while some pick the material up faster (or slower) than others.<\/p>\n

I already offer intermediate\/advanced-level training sessions for Funds Management or Grants Management (these have been on vacation during the summer but will pick up again in the fall), so hopefully that addresses the needs of the population that wants to learn more advanced reporting techniques\u00a0while\u00a0moving at a faster pace.\u00a0But what about the employees who need a little more repetition or who want to work at a slower pace to\u00a0get comfortable with course material?<\/p>\n

Starting in September, I will be offering a new course: BUworks BW Reporting: Review of BW Basics<\/em>. This workshop targets employees\u00a0who have previously attended any one of the introductory BW Reporting labs and who are\u00a0seeking to work at their\u00a0own pace to review and get more comfortable with fundamental elements of BW reporting. If something like this appeals to you, refer to the course description in the Training Calendar\u00a0below.<\/span><\/p>\n

Reporting News<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

New Funds Management\u00a05-Year History\u00a0Reports<\/strong><\/p>\n

Those among you with keen eyes may have noticed that there are two new reports in the Funds Management (Distributed) folder.<\/p>\n

\"fm_distributed_report_list\"<\/a>The reports\u00a0allow any authorized user\u00a0to view and compare final budget and actual information\u00a0for up to 5 fiscal years. Data can be summarized at the\u00a0Funds Center level in the Unrestricted Budget to Actual by Funds Center (FC) – 5 years<\/em>\u00a0report\u00a0<\/span>or broken out by GL\/Commitment Item in the Unrestricted Budget to Actual by FC, GL\/CI Detail – 5 years<\/em> report.<\/span><\/p>\n

Documentation for the reports has not yet been developed, but if you have experience with the Unrestricted Budget to Actual by Funds Center (FC)<\/em>\u00a0or Unrestricted Budget to Actual by Funds Center FC – GL\/CI Detail<\/em>\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>reports,\u00a0<\/em>you will not\u00a0have any difficulty running these new reports. Here’s a brief look at how to run the Funds Center report\u00a0and what the output looks like:<\/p>\n

Specify one to five fiscal years to view<\/p>\n


The result contains the summarized final budget and actuals results for each fiscal year selected:\"trend
These summary figures can be broken out by GL\/Commitment Item in one of several ways.\u00a0<\/span>To view detail for all<\/span>\u00a0of the Fiscal Years you selected:<\/p>\n

  1. Add\u00a0the Free Characteristic <\/span>GL\/Commitment Item<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span>to the summary report, or<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. Execute the Unrestricted Budget to Actual by FC-GL\/CI Detail<\/em> <\/span>report directly from the Reporting portal<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    To view detail for a single<\/span> Fiscal Year Final Budget or Final Actuals number, d<\/span>rill down from one of the summary report Key Figure cells to the Unrestricted Budget to Actual by FC-GL\/CI Detail<\/em> report like this:<\/p>\n

    New!\u00a0<\/strong><\/span>BUworks BW Reporting: Review of BW Basics<\/a>\u00a0–\u00a0working at a slow pace, we will review the essential elements of Business Warehouse (BW) reporting, including filtering, creating and using Views (custom layouts), sorting\/grouping, and calculating subtotals and grand totals. The workshop will be structured so that participants can apply techniques under discussion using reports from any of the functional areas they are familiar with, i.e., FM, GM, SRM or Payroll.     As always, an assortment of introductory workshops will be offered.     Adding a Calculated Key Figure<\/strong><\/h3>\n

    Using the Unrestricted Budget to Actual by Funds Center (FC) <\/em>report\u00a0introduced above as an example, suppose you want to view\u00a0the Final Budget and Final Actuals data for each year in the report and<\/span> you also want to know what the difference between each year’s\u00a0figures is. By adding a calculated Key Figure, you can change your report display from this:<\/p>\n
