Video is transforming the way we teach, learn, study, communicate, and work. Harnessing the power of video to improve teaching and learning has become essential.
The Educational Technology team has been working to deploy a new Instructional Video Platform — a cloud based video streaming service for delivery of BU-licensed or produced media content. The platform allows management of audiovisual assets and delivery via streaming media to a variety of devices and audiences, on-demand, anytime, anywhere.
What is MyMedia?
The MyMedia component of the service allows instructional content to be delivered on-demand. Content can be linked through BU’s Learning Management Systems (Blackboard and Sakai), WordPress, or directly through the MyMedia video portal (mymedia.bu.edu). MyMedia provides the ability to search, browse, watch, upload and publish videos, as well as audio and video presentations.
Additionally, this service supports the creation of course specific instructional audiovisual materials, including a one-stop integration of the content into the courses in BU’s Learning Management Systems. Centralized administration of this instructional video streaming platform with distributed management to individual schools, colleges and departments also reduces the need for multiple systems on campus.
What is BU LiveCast?
The BU LiveCast component of the service supports live or on-demand content delivery. BU LiveCast can support multiple concurrent live streams and can do so at varying levels of security. For example, the service supports live streams open to the public, live streams available only to BU associates or live streams restricted to a specific group of individuals. Additionally, BU LiveCast provides the ability for post event close captioning.
