Date: Thu, 12 Jan 2012 17:56:02 -0500 From: glenn@bu.edu Subject: SCF Batch News - Longer run time limits on the Katana Cluster Dear Researchers, In response to feedback from the BU Research Computing community, we have increased the maximum run time limit on the Katana Cluster. An individual can now have up to 4 processors running for a maximum of 72 hours. These processors count toward an individual's maximum limit of 64 simultaneously running processors. These longer running jobs will all be running on two new nodes just added to the Katana Cluster, katana-h01 and katana-h02. Each of these two nodes has 12 processors for a total of 24 processors. Any of the 24 may be used for the extended run time, but only a maximum of 12 are currently permitted to run simultaneously for the extended time. For all other processors, the 24 hour run time limit continues to apply. The default run time limit continues to be 2 hours and longer times must be specified. Please see the Running Jobs page (http://www.bu.edu/tech/research/computation/linux-cluster/katana-cluster/runningjobs/) for details. Please note that many large jobs can be split into a few smaller jobs and/or checkpointed so they can be managed well in a shared computer environment. If you need help with that, please don't hesitate contacting one of our Programming Consultants, Doug Sondak (sondak@bu.edu) or Kadin Tseng (kadin@bu.edu), for assistance. More detailed information on the systems is available on the web in the Technical Summary at: http://www.bu.edu/tech/research/computation/about-computation/tech-summary/ If for some reason your code is not able to run using the standard configuration, please don't hesitate to send e-mail to help@scv.bu.edu to let us know of any problems or difficulties you have in using the systems. We will do everything in our power to help you with your issue.
