Does BU require me to use this module with my students?<\/h6>
No. Students typically have a brief required introduction to the Academic Conduct Code during orientation, and these modules are not required by the university. However, orientation is often a distant memory once students are in the middle of their coursework, and it’s generally good practice to recycle these important ideas with students. All Writing Program classes should discuss academic integrity, plagiarism, and proper citation in level-appropriate ways, and we hope these FLMs can help instructors in that effort. Instructors in other departments and programs may also find this content useful for their students as well.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
Can I use these modules with my students outside of BU?<\/h6>
Yes. All Flipped Learning modules, like the rest of the content on the Teaching Writing site<\/a>, is copyrighted to BU, but can be used, cited, and linked to by anyone at another institution if you find them useful.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
Where does the BU Academic Conduct Code mention self-plagiarism?<\/h6>
While the BU Academic Conduct Code<\/a> does not use the term “self-plagiarism,” as we do in these modules, it cautions against the practice in Section III: Violations of this Policy, item J: “Submitting substantially the same work in more than one course without the consent of instructors” is a violation of the Academic Conduct Code.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/p>\n
