This is essential for internships, emergencies, and ease of use (making local friends!). Upon arrival, affordable c<span>ontract-free pre-paid phone plans, mobile phone options, and sim cards\u00a0<\/span>will be available for you to purchase.<\/p>\n<p><strong>*Please <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">do not purchase an international plan<\/span> through a US service provider. Although doing so would allow your phone to work in Australia, your number would still be American, meaning most Australians would not be able to contact you (unless they also have an international plan).\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If you are planning to bring a phone from home, this phone must have a sim card slot (or eSIM) and be &#8220;unlocked&#8221; (meaning it can be used with any network carrier) <b><\/b>in order to use it with an Australian service provider. <span>A &#8220;locked&#8221; phone, whether it uses a physical SIM or eSIM, is tied to one carrier (like Verizon), while an &#8220;unlocked&#8221; device allows swapping between carriers by installing different SIMs or eSIMs.<\/span><span jsuid=\"EgVeWc_b\" class=\"uJ19be notranslate\" jsaction=\"rcuQ6b:&amp;EgVeWc_b|npT2md\" jscontroller=\"udAs2b\" data-wiz-uids=\"EgVeWc_c,EgVeWc_d\" data-processed=\"true\"><span class=\"vKEkVd\" data-animation-atomic=\"\" data-wiz-attrbind=\"class=EgVeWc_b\/TKHnVd\" data-processed=\"true\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>If your current phone is not &#8220;unlocked&#8221;, consider bringing an older out of contract mobile with you to Sydney. The BU Sydney Centre also includes a computer lab and library.
