888 Commonwealth Ave uses geothermal energy for heating and cooling<\/h3>\n

Fifteen-hundred feet below the street there are six wells which harness the Earth\u2019s energy to warm and cool 888 Commonwealth Avenue. Instead of using fossil fuels, 888 Commonwealth Avenue taps into the constant temperature within the Earth\u2019s surface. Ground source heating and cooling is clean, renewable, and the more efficient than traditional energy sources. This building is Boston University\u2019s first geothermal building. Efforts to provide clean drinking water for area reservoirs help to ensure that Boston tap water is clean, fresh, and tastes great. Boston’s tap water has even won awards<\/a>. At BU there are numerous water bottle filling stations throughout campus, so remember to bring a reusable water bottle with you and stay hydrated.<\/p>\n

Boston University\u2019s bold Climate Action Plan prepares the University for the effects of climate change and improving our impacts on the environment. The CAP calls for immediate action in the University\u2019s current activities and served as the driving force behind BU Wind<\/a> and many other sustainability initiatives.
