Food Waste Sign <\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n Continue to support Boston University\u2019s commitment to sustainability<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>and Zero Waste\u00a0<\/span><\/span>through\u00a0<\/span>BU<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>RACCOON (<\/span><\/span>Residential & Community Composting and Organics Network)<\/span><\/span>!<\/span> This new program, which launched in the fall of 2025, includes two secure drop-off locations on Buswell Street.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0These food waste bins are opt-<\/span>in,<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>meaning you must sign up to\u00a0<\/span><\/span>participate<\/span>.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Boston University\u00a0has partnered with\u00a0MetroKey, a\u00a0company\u00a0that helps to\u00a0operate\u00a0lockable\u00a0compost bins. These lockable bins aim to keep pests out and food scraps in. Unlocking the bins is easy. Simply download the\u00a0MetroKey\u00a0app at the link below, sign in with\u00a0your\u00a0BU e-mail address, and select BU RACCOON as the location.\u00a0Once downloaded,\u00a0open\u00a0the app\u00a0and select the bin nearby to unlock.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n Download the app today to participate. Do not use your personal email; only BU emails will be accepted with this program.<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n With the provided compostable paper bag, found in the nearest laundry room, place leftovers and spoiled food inside.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>O<\/span>nce full,\u00a0<\/span><\/span>bring<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>it to the nearest drop-off station<\/span>. Finally, unlock the bin with the\u00a0<\/span><\/span>MetroKey<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>app through an account connected to your BU e-mail.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>BU RACCOON will be initially launched in locations on South Campus.
