This gap in information underscores the depth and complexity of longstanding racial and ethnic disparities in clinical trials and health research more generally, and highlights just how far we have to go when it comes to improving health equity. It is in this context that the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation is providing funding support for a joint social impact effort between <a href=\"http:\/\/bu.edu\/susilo\">Questrom\u2019s Susilo Institute for Ethics in the Global Economy<\/a> and Wharton\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/bcfg.wharton.upenn.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Behavior Change for Good<\/a> (BCFG) initiative to help identify effective and scalable, <span style=\"color: #008080;\"><span style=\"color: #993300;\"><strong><i>individualized<\/i><\/strong> interventions for promoting vaccinations<\/span><\/span>.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"\">A key focus of the team will be on addressing racial and ethnic health inequities in vaccination care, as their <span style=\"color: #993300;\">application of <strong><em>machine learning algorithms<\/em><\/strong><\/span> will aim to identify how to most effectively tailor vaccination communications grounded in behavioral insights to different sub-populations. The research will leverage the the data from <a href=\"https:\/\/penntoday.upenn.edu\/news\/Penn-Behavior-Change-for-Good-strategies-boost-vaccination-rate\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">two large mega study field-experiments<\/a> spearheaded by BCFG and and the <a href=\"https:\/\/nudgeunit.upenn.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Penn Medicine Nudge Unit<\/a> (PMNU) in partnership with Penn Medicine, Geisinger Health, and Walmart Pharmacy during the 2020\/21 flu season.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"\">The collaboration with support from\u00a0 the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, is expected to yield policy relevant insights within the next 9 months.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Questrom\u2019s Susilo Institute for Ethics in the Global Economy Receives Funding Support from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation to Lead Cross-University Collaboration on Improving Health Equity in the Context of Vaccine Uptake in the United States.
