During the summer months, these opportunities include everything from dance and recreation to intensive English language instruction to professional career education, programs in food and wine, youth programs, and study abroad. Make sure you take a few moments to read about these special programs\u2014you might find just the summer experience you&#8217;re looking for.<\/p>\n<h2>Fitness &amp; Recreation Center (FitRec)<\/h2>\n<p>The Fitness &amp; Recreation Center (FitRec) and the Department of Physical Education, Recreation &amp; Dance offer a wide variety of summer recreational opportunities for all ages, with programs in aquatics, climbing, court sports, dance, emergency medical services, fitness, Pilates, sailing, and yoga. One-on-one options include personal training, tennis lessons, aerial dance, dance technique, and private Pilates sessions. Programs for children\u2014including the day camp, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/fitrec\/what-we-offer\/family-programs\/camp-terrier\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Camp Terrier<\/a>\u2014and classes in dance, gymnastics, sports, swimming, and climbing are available. Early registration is encouraged. Please note that students participating in Summer Term Pre-College programs must be at least 16 years of age to purchase a membership for FitRec.<\/p>\n<p><strong>A complete list of FitRec summer programming, along with registration information, is available at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/fitrec\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">bu.edu\/fitrec<\/a> starting in the spring. Contact FitRec at <a href=\"mailto:fitrec@bu.edu\">fitrec@bu.edu<\/a> or 617-358-3740 for more information.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2>Center for English Language &amp; Orientation Programs (CELOP)<\/h2>\n<p>BU\u2019s Center for English Language &amp; Orientation Programs (CELOP) empowers international students and professionals to succeed in their academic and professional lives through innovative programs designed to improve English language proficiency and global competency.<\/p>\n<p>CELOP&#8217;s summer programs range from intensive and part-time English language programs for general and academic English to programs focused on pre-MBA and legal English. High school students also have the opportunity to join CELOP&#8217;s Gateway to the American University program, which is designed for students interested in applying to an American college or university.<\/p>\n<p>Throughout the summer, CELOP students take advantage of all that Boston has to offer by joining activities on campus and around the city, virtually and in person\u2014including cultural events, guest speaker lectures, workshops, and field trips. Study global governance in Geneva, studio art along the canals of Venice, contemporary film in Sydney, or conflict &amp; crisis reporting in Padua. Explore two of the most dynamic locations here in the US with internships in Washington, D.C. and Los Angeles. BU degree candidates may register via the web or by submitting an SPH Add\/Drop form (available on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/sph\/students\/on-campus-students\/academics\/forms\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">SPH Forms<\/a> page) to <a href=\"mailto:sphreg@bu.edu\">sphreg@bu.edu<\/a>. The course must be open and any prerequisites must be met. Non-degree students must be eligible to enroll in part-time coursework. Non-degree students are allowed to complete two courses in non-degree status at SPH. Students are invited to submit an online application with SPH when non-degree registration for summer 2026 opens on April 20, 2026. Programs provide both new and seasoned professionals the opportunity to update knowledge, improve current skills, master the latest techniques, and adopt best practices in their chosen fields. Instructors with distinguished careers and proven expertise ensure that students receive the hands-on, insider knowledge needed for continued success.
