Summer Study for Visiting International Students

All international students who plan to enroll as non-degree students at Boston University during the summer must complete this form. The information required depends on your specific immigration situation. If you make a mistake, go back, enter the correct information, and re-check your answers to the questions following your change. Please provide the session, course name, course number, and credits awarded for each class that you would like to take. Students requesting an I-20 must register and enroll as full-time students. Full-time enrollment is defined as registration for a minimum of 8 credits in one summer session or 12 credits over both sessions. Please note: this is not an official registration form. You must also complete a registration form for Summer 1 and/or Summer 2 and send it to the Summer Term Office to officially register for courses.

Financial Declaration

Boston University is required by U.S. government regulations to verify the availability of adequate funding for your tuition, fees, and living expenses for the duration of your studies at Boston University in order to issue the immigration documents necessary to obtain a student visa. All financial documents submitted for evaluation will become the property of Boston University and will not be returned to the applicant. It is recommended that you request multiple copies of the documentation listed below to submit at the point of visa application and to retain for your records. Please refer to the Estimated Expenses PDF for a list of fees and for the minimum funds required per summer session. All declarations of financial support must:

  1. Reflect the minimum amount of support in U.S. dollars
  2. Specify funding for study at Boston University (not another college or university)
  3. Include a date and be no more than one year old from the intended date of enrollment
  4. Indicate the period of time for which the support will be provided
  5. Be written in English

  1. The Financial Sponsorship Certification Form which indicates that your sponsor is willing and able to support you financially for your academic fees and living expenses throughout the duration of your studies at Boston University and the relationship of the sponsor to the applicant.
  2. An official bank statement or credit reference from a bank stating the availability of the minimum estimated costs as indicated on the Estimated Expenses PDF.

  2. Exactly which expenses will be covered (i.e., academic fees, living expense, health insurance, financial support for family members, travel, etc.)
  3. The length of the financial support.

Before submitting your application, please verify that all of your information is complete. Once you click submit, you will be directed to the Boston University Cashier's Office secure credit card payment system to pay your non-refundable $50 international student processing fee. When you complete your credit card transaction, you will receive a confirmation email message from the Boston University Summer Term office.
