There are some easy ways that we, as faculty and staff, can remind our students about the importance of taking care of themselves and can help create an atmosphere where our students can thrive.<\/p>\n<p>Try the following tactics to help support student wellbeing on campus:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>\u00a0Add a link<\/strong> to one of many campus resources that support student wellbeing in your syllabus or your email signature or <strong>add the QR code below<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/studentwellbeing\/how-to-live-well\/headspace-app-free-for-students\/\">Headspace for students<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/studentwellbeing\/find-wellbeing-resources\/\">Student Wellbeing Resource Guide<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/shs\/\">Student Health Services<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/shs\/behavioral-medicine\/\">Counseling and Psychiatric Services (CAPS)<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/erc\/\">Educational Resource Center<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Add a message<\/strong> to your syllabus that recognizes the challenges that come with being a student. Here is some suggested language:<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 120px;\"><em style=\"font-size: 16px;\">&#8220;I know being a student can be hard. Its a lot to manage academically, socially and financially. Please know that there are many resources at BU that can be helpful to you during your time here. You can visit and search a directory of what <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/studentwellbeing\/find-wellbeing-resources\/\">BU has to offer to support your wellbeing<\/a>.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Create a safe and inclusive atmosphere<\/strong> by acknowledging that we are all learning from each other.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Demonstrate approachability<\/strong> with consistent office hours.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Periodically review and readjust<\/strong> deadlines as needed with students. Life happens for our students outside of the classroom.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Recognize the impact<\/strong> of personal, campus or national events and how they may impact a student\u2019s ability to meet deadlines for assignments.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Set deadlines<\/strong> for assignments that encourage sleep. Assignments should be due in the afternoon or evening, vs early morning hours.
