(BA, Pomona College; MA, PhD, University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill)<\/p>\n<p>Specialization: International and Comparative Political Economy, Governance, Development; Latin American Studies; Mexican political economy and politics.<\/p>\n<p>Strom Thacker\u2019s research and teaching focus broadly on questions of political economy, governance and development, with a regional focus on Mexico and Latin America. His books include\u00a0<em>Big Business, the State, and Free Trade: Constructing Coalitions in Mexico<\/em> (Cambridge University Press, 2000),\u00a0<em>A Centripetal Theory of Democratic Governance<\/em> (with John Gerring, Cambridge University Press, 2008), and\u00a0<em>Democracy and Development: A Historical Perspective<\/em> (with John Gerring, in process). He is also working on a project on the politics of human development. He has published articles in the\u00a0<em>American Political Science Review<\/em>, the\u00a0<em>British Journal of Political Science<\/em>,\u00a0<em>Business and Politics<\/em>,\u00a0<em>Comparative Political Studies, Global Public Health,\u00a0International Organization<\/em>, the\u00a0<em>Journal of Interamerican Studies and World Affairs<\/em>, the <em>Journal of Politics<\/em>, <em>Social Science &amp; Medicine<\/em>, <em>World Development<\/em>, and\u00a0<em>World Politics<\/em>. He also has an ongoing interest in the politics of foreign aid and lending, and the International Monetary Fund.<\/p>\n<p>Thacker served from 2010 to 2015 as Associate Dean of the Faculty for the Social Sciences in Boston University&#8217;s\u00a0College of Arts and Sciences. He is a Faculty Affiliate of the David Rockefeller Center for Latin American Studies at Harvard University and has served as a Fellow of\u00a0the Frederick S. Pardee Center for the Study of the Longer-Range Future at Boston University. He has been a Visiting Scholar in Political Science at MIT, Visiting Associate Professor of Government at Harvard University, a Susan Louise Dyer Peace Fellow at Stanford University\u2019s Hoover Institution, and a Fulbright Scholar. He has also received research grants funded by the World Bank, BU\u2019s SPRInG program, BU\u2019s Pardee Center, the Mellon Foundation, the Tinker Foundation, and the University of North Carolina.
