Charles was born in Detroit, MI on December 3, 1937.\u00a0 He was the son of Robert Marble and Alice (Herring) Marble and the eldest of 3 children.\u00a0 He grew up and attended high school in Detroit, MI.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Charles attended Wayne State University receiving a BA with majors in psychology and philosophy. He also ran cross country at Wayne State.\u00a0 He attended Boston University School of Theology earning his Bachelor of Sacred Theology.\u00a0 He was a member of the Boston University School of Theology Seminary Singers.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Charles met the love of his life, Janice (Beckwith) Kennedy, at Westlawn Church in Detroit, Mi in 1963 and they married on August 9, 1964 in Dansville, MI.\u00a0 Charles became an ordained United Methodist pastor in 1963 and served in the Detroit Annual Conference for 37 \u00bd\u00a0 years pastoring\u00a0 churches in Detroit, Flint, Inkster, Bay City, Burton, Dixboro and Houghton Lake. \u00a0 He spent many summers as a camp counselor and also facilitated many Emmaus Walks.\u00a0 He retired in Sugar Springs with Janice in 2000.\u00a0 After retirement he held four interim assignments in Poseyville, Gladwin, Beaverton\/Dale and Pinconning.\u00a0 Charles and Janice have developed an amazing network of lifelong friends over the years.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Charles was a man of faith, family and friends and passed on many of these wonderful values and traits to his family. \u00a0 He touched and impacted the lives of countless people. \u00a0 He was always intentional in his conversations making sure people knew just how much they were valued and that their life stories were important.\u00a0 He took long walks almost every day and knew just about all of his neighbors within a mile or two radius.\u00a0 He really enjoyed meeting and talking to people, taking interest in them and helping whenever he could.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">He was an avid stamp collector, enjoyed traveling, running and walking, doing puzzles, watching the Tigers,\u00a0 and in his earlier years, square dancing.\u00a0 He always enjoyed attending his children and grandchildren\u2019s sporting events and extra-curricular activities and these times were very precious to him.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Charles is survived by Janice, his beloved wife of 57 years, 6 children, numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nephews, nieces and great nephews and nieces.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Children &#8211; daughters Melissa Howard (Mark), Pam Perez (Donn), Sandra Gill, Mimi Higgins (Weldon) and sons Marcus Marble (Angela) and Steven Marble (Lily).<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Grandchildren &#8211; Dylan and Grace Howard, Alan Perez, Blake Tereau, Jenna Beth and Caden Gill, Torey (and family), Taylor, Rowan and Caleb Higgins.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Other family members include brother Lee Marble (Linda), nephew Andy Marble (and family), niece Katie Marble (and family), brother-in-law Barry Bryant and niece Lisa Kemp (and family).<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Charles is preceded in death by his parents Alice Marble and Robert Marble, sister Carol Bryant and niece Dawn Lademan.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Charles&#8217; name that will be given to one of his favorite charities, of which he had many.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Visitation will be held at Hall-Kokotovich Funeral Home at 440 E. Cedar Ave., Gladwin, MI on Wednesday, May 11 from 2:00 &#8211; 8:00 pm.\u00a0 An additional visitation will be held on Thursday, May 12 at Gladwin United Methodist Church at 309 M-18, Gladwin, MI 48624 with family receiving guests at 2:00 pm, a memorial service beginning at 4:00 pm and a late lunch following.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">A Celebration of Life, in remembrance of Charles, is being planned for this summer.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Isaiah 40:11 &#8211; He tends His flock like a shepherd: He gathers the lambs in His arms and carries them close to His heart; He gently leads those that have young.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Psalm 23<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This obituary was originally published by the Hall-Kokotovich Funeral Home and can be found here.
