{"id":32319,"date":"2017-06-26T17:32:57","date_gmt":"2017-06-26T21:32:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/sth\/?p=32319"},"modified":"2021-10-08T15:45:53","modified_gmt":"2021-10-08T19:45:53","slug":"professor-dale-andrews","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/sth\/professor-dale-andrews\/","title":{"rendered":"Professor Dale Andrews"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On Saturday, June 24, 2017, Dean Mary Elizabeth Moore sent the following email message to the STH Community:<br \/>\n<a href=\"\/sth\/files\/2019\/09\/dale-andrews.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/sth\/files\/2019\/09\/dale-andrews.jpg\" alt=\"dale-andrews\" width=\"175\" height=\"210\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-32318\" \/><\/a>With overwhelming sadness, I share the news of <a href=\"http:\/\/divinity.vanderbilt.edu\/people\/bio\/dale-andrews\">Dale Andrews<\/a>\u2019 death last night. Emilie Townes shared the note below on Facebook, and you will see that the family has requested for all communication to go through Emilie so they will not be deluged with communications. As most of you know, Dale was Martin Luther King, Jr. Professor of Homiletics and Pastoral Theology at BU School of Theology from 2005-2010. He was beloved by colleagues and students alike, and he helped to shape the school as it is. He loved his family and students and colleagues far and wide, and he was a model of a teaching scholar-pastor and pastoral scholar-teacher. Words fail in the face of such loss.<br \/>\nEmilie Townes&#8217; post regarding the passing of Dr. Dale P. Andrews:<br \/>\n&#8220;One and all,<br \/>\nIt is with a heavy heart that I write to let you know that Dale P. Andrews, Cornelius Vanderbilt Chair and Distinguished Professor of Homiletics, Social Justice, and Practical Theology died last night, surrounded by his family, as was his deep wish.<br \/>\nService arrangements are yet to be determined, but Barbara will pass along this information to me as soon as it becomes available so that I can let you all know. She writes, \u201cWe want to celebrate the life and love of a great man, father, husband, colleague, mentor, and friend.\u201d<br \/>\nAs requested before, please send your notes and cards to the Dean\u2019s Office addressed to<br \/>\nProfessor Dale P. Andrews<br \/>\nVanderbilt Divinity School<br \/>\n411 21st Avenue South<br \/>\nNashville, TN 37240<br \/>\nWe will be sure that Barbara and the kids receive them as soon as possible once we receive them.
