\nThe Director of Communications and Development is responsible for managing the public relations work and fundraising efforts of the National Council of Churches of Christ in the USA (NCC). This position will be located in the NCC\u2019s Washington D.C. offices.
\n 
\nSince its founding in 1950, the National Council of the Churches of Christ in the USA has been a leading force for ecumenical cooperation among Christians in the United States. The 37 NCC member communions \u2014 from a wide spectrum of Protestant, Anglican, Orthodox, Evangelical, historic African American and Living Peace churches \u2014 include 45 million persons in more than 100,000 local congregations in communities across the nation.
\n 
\nEssential Functions<\/strong>
\n 
\nUnder the direction and supervision of the NCC President and General Secretary, the Director of Communications and Development will:
\n 
\n\uf0b7 Work closely with the Council\u2019s Communications Committee to develop communications strategies and execute programs to deliver communications objectives throughout the organization.
\n 
\n\uf0b7 Work closely with the Development Committee to implement the Council\u2019s development plan and provide creative leadership regarding fundraising opportunities and objectives.
\n 
\n\uf0b7 Produce and edit an electronic newsletter and lead the Council\u2019s social media efforts.
\n 
\n\uf0b7 Maintain contact with communications staff of NCC member communions and partners and strategize with them on matters of mutual interest and concern.
\n 
\n\uf0b7 Maintain contact with and develop strategic relationships with members of the secular and religious media to ensure the NCC has a high public profile.
\n 
\n\uf0b7 Manage the Council\u2019s public relations, brand and reputation, create and distribute press releases, action alerts, and marketing campaigns.
\n 
\n\uf0b7 Maintain the NCC\u2019s website and databases, ensure it is regularly updated and remains up to date technologically and create rich and creative content that is optimized for search engines.
\n 
\n\uf0b7 Be familiar with the NCC\u2019s public policy positions and those of its member communions and represent the Council as directed by the President\/General Secretary.
\n 
\n\uf0b7 Assist in the preparation of the Council\u2019s Christian Unity Gathering (CUG) including working with the President\/General Secretary, the planning committee, and other staff in preparing the agenda and assisting with the logistics of the CUG.
\n 
\n\uf0b7 Ensure the Council\u2019s communications ministry is carried out with sensitivity to gender, racial, economic, disability and intergenerational lenses.
\n 
\n\uf0b7 Equip, train and resource regional and local faith-based organizations related to the Council\u2019s mission and priorities.
\n 
\n\uf0b7 Undertake other projects\/work\/functions that may be assigned by the President\/General Secretary.
\n 
\nEssential Qualifications<\/strong>
\nDegree in journalism, communications, or related field is preferred. <\/span><\/span>
\n 
\n\uf0b7 Previous website management experience is preferred.
\n 
\n\uf0b7 Knowledge of HTML and experience working with Dreamweaver is preferred.
\n 
\n\uf0b7 Experience working with Sala or other CRM systems is preferred.
\n 
\n\uf0b7 Training in theology and ecumenism is preferred.
\n 
\n\uf0b7 Demonstrated experience in managing a comprehensive strategic communications and media relations program to advance an organization\u2019s mission and goals.
\n 
\n\uf0b7 Superior oral and written communications skills.
\n 
\n\uf0b7 Demonstrated track record in development and fundraising is desired.
\n 
\n\uf0b7 Passion and experience for ecumenism and the work of the National Council of Churches.
\n 
\n\uf0b7 A track record of collaborative leadership and team building within complex religious organizations.
\n 
\n\uf0b7 Integrity and an ability to establish and maintain trust amongst diverse constituencies and team members, and an ability to engage with proficiency with others in various leadership positions.
\n 
\n\uf0b7 Creativity, forward thinking abilities and technologically savviness.
\n 
\n\uf0b7 Familiarity with the public policy positions of the NCC and member communions.
\n 
\n\uf0b7 A record of and ability to infuse race, gender, and economic equality with sensitivity to disability and intergenerational concerns, throughout the organization and its work in tangible, efficient and creative ways.
\n 
\n\uf0b7 Ability to manage and oversee a budget.
\n 
\n\uf0b7 Significant familiarity with community organizing techniques.
\n 
\n\uf0b7 Ability to make timely, intelligent decisions and take action after considering options and available information.
\n 
\n\uf0b7 Membership in an NCC member communion preferred.
\n 
\nSalary and Benefits<\/strong>
\nAnnual salary of $75,000 and 9% pension benefits, 22 days of paid vacation, and a significant health care insurance subsidy.
