Recognizing the need for diverse approaches to training today\u2019s religious leaders, the School of Theology offers a Master of Divinity (MDiv) program with three flexible tracks that allow students to customize coursework with their unique vocational calling in mind. The MDiv program is designed to be completed in three years (6 semesters) of full-time study and offers opportunities to fulfill the ordination requirements for many faith traditions. MDiv students may also complete one of the School of Theology\u2019s<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/sth\/academics\/degree-programs\/certificates\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> certificate programs<\/a> as part of their studies.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a id=\"curriculum\" class=\"jump\"><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">All MDiv tracks share a common set of \u201ccore\u201d courses (30 units) in Sacred Texts &amp; Interpretations, History of Traditions &amp; Institutions, Theology &amp; Meaning Making, Ethics &amp; Lived Values, Spirituality, Religious Leadership Practices, Formation, and Contextual Education. About 20% of the MDiv curriculum consists of track courses (15 units). Students then have 27 free elective units <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">with which to further customize t<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">heir degree.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/academics\/sth\/programs\/theological-studies\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The School of Theology Bulletin<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is the official source for all policies and requirements of the Master of Divinity Degree. It supports those preparing for ecclesial ministry, grounding them deeply in their own tradition while equipping them broadly for ministerial practice in a religious community in alignment with their The following outlines the assessment requirements.<\/p>\n<h5>FIRST TERM<\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li>Students are encouraged to meet with their faculty advisor.<\/li>\n<li>Students retain a copy of their application essay for use in the assessment process.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5>SECOND TERM<\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li>The student should check in\/set up appointment with the Contextual Education office about a placement <em>early in the semester<\/em>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5>THIRD TERM<\/h5>\n<h5>FOURTH TERM<\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li>The mid-degree conversation takes place this term.<\/li>\n<li>At the beginning of the term, a formal letter goes out from the Academic Dean\u2019s office, explaining the process for the mid-degree conversation. This could be the contextual education supervisor, a small group leader, a minister from home, an undergraduate professor, etc. One of the members may join the conversation remotely.<\/li>\n<li>All members of this group are expected to read the portfolio materials in preparation for the meeting.
