Jennifer Lewis
PhD Student in Practical Theology
Jennifer Lewis is PhD candidate in Practical Theology at Boston University School of Theology where she researches at the intersection of spirituality studies and religious education. Her work focuses on spiritual practices in contemporary contexts, contemplative models of religious education, feminist theological methods, and women’s spiritualities. Her dissertation is entitled “Wombing Theology, Mothering Subjects: Conceiving a Feminist Contemplative Pedagogy in Conversation with Julian of Norwich.” The project brings Julian of Norwich’s writings into conversation with scholarship on contemplative pedagogies and feminist practical theology, with the aim of developing a distinctly feminist form of contemplative religious teaching and learning.
Alongside completing her doctoral studies, Jennifer is the Project Coordinator of Creative Callings, a grant project focused on nurturing creative vocational reflection in Boston-area congregations (https://www.creativecallingsproject.org/). She is also in the process of discernment to the priesthood with the Episcopal Diocese of Colorado, USA and is in training to become a spiritual director with Oasis Ministries. Jennifer has an MDiv and MA in Religious Education from Princeton Theological Seminary and welcomes conversation. She can be reached at jllewis@bu.edu.
