In Summer&#8217;s I was an associate house parent at Lake Bluff Children&#8217;s home in Illinois. I was a student assistant in the English Department.<\/p>\n<p>At Boston I wrote for NEXUS and KAIROS and worked as an assistant to the director of the Student Christian Association I was for two years a youth director for Haven Methodist Church in East Providence, Rhode Island and the summer pastor at Calvary Methodist Church, Newport Rhode Island.<\/p>\n<p>Ordained Deacon and Elder in the Mo. West Conference and served as pastor of First Methodist, Buckner, Mo and at Royal Heights Methodist Church in Joplin, Mo. I served for two years with International Voluntary Services in Vietnam , as a teacher, education team leader and finally acting Chief of Party. I then went to Oxford for my doctorate in Ecclesiastical History, then to McKendree College in Illinois as an Assistant Professor of History; then to Talladega College in Alabama as Professor of History and Chair of the Social Sciences Division. Finally, I went to the University of Indianapolis as Professor of History and Academic Dean, retiring in 1998 to Sarasota, FL where I have been active in the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer, and in the Association for Campus Ministry as President of the Board. I am a member of the Ecclesiastical History Society (Great Britain) and the National Episcopal Historians and Archivists as well as a member of the Episcopal Historical \u00a0Society. I have written on the origins of Methodist worship and on African American ecclesiastical history. I am married to Gillian, and have two married sons in Atlanta and Santa Monica, CA. Four grandchildren ages 6 months, 6, 8 and 10 years old.
