\"James<\/a>The son and grandson of Methodist preachers, after graduating from the School of Theology, Mudge served for a number of years as a pastor in the New England Conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church.\u00a0 In 1873, he became a missionary to India.\u00a0 After returning to the United States, he lectured on missions at the School of Theology and wrote a number of books on missions and spirituality.\u00a0 He was editor of the Zion’s Herald <\/em>from 1908 to 1912, and secretary of the New England Conference from 1889 to 1918.\u00a0 He died in 1918.<\/p>\n
