{"id":1503,"date":"2012-04-26T20:50:58","date_gmt":"2012-04-27T00:50:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/sth-history\/?page_id=1503"},"modified":"2012-04-30T10:26:57","modified_gmt":"2012-04-30T14:26:57","slug":"faculty-of-the-biblical-institute-1839-1846","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/sth-history\/faculty\/faculty-of-the-biblical-institute-1839-1846\/","title":{"rendered":"Faculty of the Biblical Institute, 1839-46"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On April 24, 1839 a group of Methodists met in Boston, and laid plans for a school that would eventually be identified as the School of Theology.\u00a0 Its first incarnation appeared in Newbury, Vermont.\u00a0 The Biblical Institute in Newbury was a secondary, or preparatory school.\u00a0 Although each of the New England conferences were to support the fledgling school, few in fact were able to provide money or leadership.\u00a0 The initial faculty consisted of Osmon C. Baker, who taught theology, and W.M.
