Through mixed-method, interprofessional, community-based translational research approaches, Dr. Johnson’s research aims to serve older people experiencing homelessness and housing precarity, and the health and social service professionals who work with them.<\/p>\n
Ian focuses on creating, improving, and sustaining housing and community-based interventions that promote housing and health justice in mid to later life in three ways: (a) improving direct service provision with older people experiencing homelessness, (b) increasing knowledge and communication between safety-net healthcare and homeless response systems, and (c) addressing spatial injustices in urban public places to ensure equitable aging in community.<\/p>\n
As a community-engaged researcher, Ian’s recent projects have involved partnership with LGBTQ+ older adults, staff and users of an urban public library, and a palliative care street medicine team. Ian maintains a part-time clinical practice with older adults and their care networks.<\/p>\n
