Jerry Kai-Chun Fu is a student in the PhD in Social Work program at Boston University School of Social Work. His research focuses on sex education, LGBTQ+ health, and the intersection of race, gender, and legal status in shaping sexual health outcomes.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>
<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>
<\/span>Prior to joining Boston University, Jerry worked as a clinical social worker and a community-based practitioner, supporting and advocating for students, educators, LGBTQ+ communities, and individuals living with HIV\/AIDS. Through this work, he continues to\u00a0<\/span><\/span>witness<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>how stigma and policy barriers affect everyday life, which in turn strengthens his commitment to community-centered research, inclusive interventions, and policy change.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>

<\/span>Jerry employs both qualitative and quantitative methods to examine how policies and interventions shape sexual health and HIV-related outcomes.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>His quantitative research investigates how state-level policy environments moderate mental health disparities among sexual minority youth. His qualitative master\u2019s thesis,\u00a0<\/span><\/span>recognized<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>with two academic award<\/span>s<\/span>, examined how reimbursement restrictions affect\u00a0<\/span><\/span>trea<\/span><\/span>tment<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>access for people living with HIV\/AIDS. He has also co-designed a gamified sex education intervention for youth in Taiwan\u2019s under-resourced areas that now reaches over 2,000 students citywide.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>

<\/span>Jerry currently serves as a research manager for studies led by Professor Daniel Jacobson L\u00f3pez on sexual healthcare services for Black and Latino gay and bisexual male survivors. He leads research team coordination, conducts participant screening, interviews, and data analysis, supports IRB submissions, and contributes to manuscript development. In addition, he is collaborating with colleagues on a project, funded by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), to develop strategies that enhance HIV research engagement among underserved LGBTQ+ populations in Taiwan. Jerry has presented his work at the annual meetings of the Society for Social Work and Research (SSWR), the American Public Health Association (APHA), and the AACR Conference on the Science of Cancer Health Disparities and has published in a peer-reviewed journal. He is a recipient of the 2026 SSWR Doctoral Student Travel Award.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>
