Her mixed methods and community-engaged research is centered at the nexus of the child welfare, juvenile, and criminal legal systems. She examines youth and emerging adults\u2019 experiences across these systems, the causes and consequences of carceral contact, and strategies for interrupting youth criminalization and incarceration. Her research interests also include Youth Participatory Action Research and anti-carceral approaches to social work.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Throughout her research areas, Dr. Toraif is committed to involving youth and emerging adults as key partners in the research process, both to ground inquiry in their experiences and priorities and to provide them with tools and resources for organizing and policy change.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dr. Toraif received her PhD from the BUSSW, where she was also a Ford Foundation Fellow, a Society for Social Work and Research Doctoral Fellow, and a Harvard Rappaport Fellow.
