{"id":37282,"date":"2018-07-17T13:06:07","date_gmt":"2018-07-17T18:06:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/ssw\/?post_type=profile&#038;p=37282"},"modified":"2026-04-22T17:50:01","modified_gmt":"2026-04-22T21:50:01","slug":"hope-haslam-straughan","status":"publish","type":"profile","link":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/ssw\/profile\/hope-haslam-straughan\/","title":{"rendered":"Hope Haslam Straughan"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hope Haslam Straughan is the coordinator for the dual-degree Master of Social Work\/Master of Theology Studies at Boston University. \u201cI completed my MSW studies at a seminary in which I also received a certificate in Theology,\u201d she explains. \u201cIn this way, my understanding of the underlying philosophies of social work were coupled with a deeper understanding of the interconnectedness of people and the call to care for one another\u2014especially the vulnerable among us.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Prior to joining the BUSSW faculty in June 2018, Haslam Straughan served as dean for the School of Social Work, Leadership, and Youth Advocacy at Wheelock College. Her research interests include spirituality within social work practice, justice-based social work, child welfare, and foster care and adoption, with a particular focus on transracial adoption. Haslam Straughan is the author of <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Parenting in Transracial Adoption: Real Questions and Real Answers<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (Praeger, 2016) and \u201cSpiritual Development Across the Lifespan\u201d in <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Christianity and Social Work<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (5th ed.)
