{"id":33230,"date":"2017-07-11T12:56:49","date_gmt":"2017-07-11T16:56:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/?post_type=profile&#038;p=33230"},"modified":"2026-04-30T11:55:51","modified_gmt":"2026-04-30T15:55:51","slug":"melvin-delgado","status":"publish","type":"profile","link":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/ssw\/profile\/melvin-delgado\/","title":{"rendered":"Melvin Delgado"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Melvin Delgado is a prolific researcher and author who is interested in cities and the community assets within them. \u201cThere is a tendency to focus on urban centers from a deficit perspective,\u201d he notes. \u201cHowever, there is much that is right that social workers must never lose sight of in the work that we do.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Delgado focuses on many of these assets in the nearly 40 books to his credit\u2014the most recent of which include <em>Sanctuary Cities, Communities, and Organizations: A Nation at the Crossroads <\/em>(Oxford University Press, 2018), <em>Urban Youth Trauma: Using Community Interventions to Overcome Gun Violence <\/em>(Rowman &amp; Littlefield, 2019) and <em>Community Health Workers in Action: The Efforts of \u201cPromotores de Salud\u201d in Bringing Health Care to Marginalized Communities <\/em>(Oxford University Press, 2020). In addition, he has written more than 80 peer-reviewed journal articles and is the editor of the Oxford University book series on social justice and youth community practice.<\/p>\n<p>Since 1999, Delgado has served as associate editor of the <em>Journal of Primary Prevention<\/em>. He is a current editorial board member for a number of journals including <em>Drug Abuse and Substance Dependence<\/em>, <em>Social Work with Groups<\/em>, <em>Journal of Ethnic &amp; Cultural Diversity in Social Work<\/em>, and <em>Alcoholism Treatment Quarterly<\/em>.
