{"id":77679,"date":"2026-03-03T13:06:26","date_gmt":"2026-03-03T18:06:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/ssw\/?p=77679"},"modified":"2026-05-01T15:46:36","modified_gmt":"2026-05-01T19:46:36","slug":"bussw-alum-receives-2026-social-work-grant-award-from-boston-psychoanalytic-society-and-institute","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/ssw\/bussw-alum-receives-2026-social-work-grant-award-from-boston-psychoanalytic-society-and-institute\/","title":{"rendered":"BUSSW Alum Receives 2026 Social Work Grant Award from Boston Psychoanalytic Society and Institute"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Boston University School of Social Work\u00a0alum\u00a0Sama Sarraj, LCSW (SSW\u00a0&#8217;25),\u00a0currently a social work fellow at Cambridge Health Alliance\u2019s Program for Psychotherapy,\u00a0recently received the 2026 Boston Psychoanalytic Society and Institute\u2019s (BPSI) Social Work Grant Award.<\/p>\n<p>The award\u00a0includes a partnership with the <a href=\"https:\/\/bpsi.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Boston Psychoanalytic Institute<\/a>, where recipients receive mentorship from a social work psychoanalyst and access to continuing education opportunities to support professional development.<\/p>\n<p>As part of the award, Sarraj attended the American Psychoanalytic Association\u2019s annual meeting in San Francisco, an experience she described as illuminating for understanding current conversations in the field \u2014 including the gaps she hopes to help address. She said\u00a0engaging with\u00a0practitioners and scholars reinforced her interest in examining how sociopolitical factors shape individual experience and inform treatment for vulnerable populations.<\/p>\n<p>In her current position, Sarraj provides long-term psychodynamic treatment in her hospital\u2019s outpatient psychiatry department.
