Recently, Associate Professor Jenn<\/span>ifer M. G\u00f3mez from Boston University School of Social Work (BUSSW), was a guest at the Intersectionality Training Institute\u2019s <\/span>Intersectionality Research Salon <\/span><\/a>to speak on <\/span>cultural betrayal trauma theory<\/span><\/a>, <\/span>dreamstorming<\/span><\/i><\/a>, and her <\/span>career trajectory<\/span><\/a>.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In this salon, Professor <\/span>G\u00f3mez explores key ideas from her award-winning book,<\/span> The Cultural Betrayal of Black Women & Girls: A Black Feminist Approach to Healing from Sexual Abuse<\/span><\/i><\/a>, <\/span><\/i>which <\/span>explores<\/span> the complexities of cultural betrayal\u2014harm that occurs within communities that are expected to provide protection against racism\u2014and examines how misogynoir (the <\/span>combination of anti-black racism and misogyny directed towards black women)<\/span> further shapes the experiences of Black women and girls.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Professor G\u00f3mez also introduced her practice of \u201cdreamstorming,\u201d a method for imagining and working toward a world defined by peace and equality to create a positive impact amid today\u2019s climate of regression. Her salon offers a candid look into her research and writing approach, highlighting how she balances both collaborative and solo authorship throughout her career.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
