Two recent Boston University School of Social Work graduates, Matteo Montero-Murillo (MSW\u201925) and Sof\u00eda Vargas (MSW\u201925), capped off the academic year at the 2025 Fellows Forum hosted by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE), the national association representing social work education.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Montero-Murillo and Vargas, who were both <\/span>appointed<\/span><\/a> 2024-25 fellows of CSWE\u2019s Minority Fellowship Program (MFP) last fall, joined dozens of bachelor\u2019s, master\u2019s, and doctoral students at CSWE headquarters in Alexandria, Va., for seminars and networking before traveling to Washington, DC, where they met up with CSWE staff on Capitol Hill.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In DC, the group advocated for CSWE priority issues, meeting with representatives from the offices of Sen. Ed Markey, Sen. Elizabeth Warren, and Rep. Ayanna Pressley to voice their support for Pell Grants, school-based mental health services, NIH funding, public service loan forgiveness, and social work and behavioral health training and resources.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe met social work fellows from all over the country and made some great connections,\u201d said Vargas. \u201cIt was such a meaningful way to wrap up our time as MSW students.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Montero-Murillo and Vargas graduated the week after the Fellows Forum \u2013 well-prepared and motivated to embark on their social work careers.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
