{"id":63089,"date":"2023-05-22T14:14:15","date_gmt":"2023-05-22T18:14:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/ssw\/?p=63089"},"modified":"2026-01-30T14:49:02","modified_gmt":"2026-01-30T19:49:02","slug":"prof-augsberger-promoted-associate-professor-tenure","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/ssw\/prof-augsberger-promoted-associate-professor-tenure\/","title":{"rendered":"Professor Augsberger Promoted to Associate Professor with Tenure"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/ssw\/profile\/astraea-augsberger-lcsw\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Astraea Augsberger<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a faculty member at Boston University School of Social Work (BUSSW) and a faculty affiliate at BUSSW\u2019s Center for Innovation in Social Work and Health, has been promoted from assistant professor to associate professor with tenure in recognition of her exemplary scholarship, teaching, and service.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Augsberger has dedicated her social work career to promoting the rights of children, youth, and families to have a voice in the organizational and institutional practices, programs, and policies that impact their lives. Her research, which is supported by federal, state, and foundation grants, examines multi-level factors that inhibit or facilitate a person\u2019s ability to participate in decision-making within multiple institutions including child welfare, municipal government, education, and health care. It has been shaped by more than fifteen years of clinical social work practice with children and families involved in multiple systems.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A leading scholar in the field of youth civic engagement \u2013 in particular, the development, implementation, and evaluation of youth advisory boards \u2013 Augsberger&#8217;s research impact is also evident in <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/ssw\/profs-augsberger-collins-share-expertise-family-youth-engagement-child-welfare-compendium\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">child welfare policy and practice<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/ssw\/wgbh-greater-boston-prof-augsberger-colleagues-discuss-vital-role-youth-voices-healthcare\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">youth engagement in health care decision-making<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Among her numerous projects, she recently received <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/ssw\/prof-augsberger-receives-nih-funding-expand-project-impact\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">new funding<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> from the National Institutes of Health to fund the expansion of Project IMPACT, a preventative service program for parents with intellectual disabilities which she leads alongside Wendy Zeitlin of Montclair State University and community partners from the Westchester Institution for Human Development.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Augsberger has published her work widely in scholarly journals including Health Affairs, Children and Youth Services Review, American Journal of Community Psychology, and Journal of Adolescent Research. Her recent article, \u201cFamily Engagement in Child Welfare System Level Change: A Review of Current Models,\u201d<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">was <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/ssw\/bussw-faculty-student-awarded-best-quantitative-article-families-society-journal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">awarded the 2022 Best Quantitative Article in Families in Society<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">She has served as an expert advisor on youth engagement strategies and best practices to multiple federal, state, and local advisory boards, including the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office of the Assistant Secretary for Planning and Evaluation, and was recently appointed to the<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/youthmovenational.org\/board-of-directors\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">board of directors<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for Youth MOVE National, an organization whose mission is to connect, support, and develop youth leadership in advocacy to create positive change.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/ssw\/profile\/astraea-augsberger-lcsw\/\">Learn More About Prof. Augsberger<\/a><\/strong><\/h4>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Astraea Augsberger, a faculty member at Boston University School of Social Work (BUSSW) and a faculty affiliate at BUSSW\u2019s Center for Innovation in Social Work and Health, has been promoted from assistant professor to associate professor with tenure in recognition of her exemplary scholarship, teaching, and service.
