{"id":37730,"date":"2018-09-05T16:13:54","date_gmt":"2018-09-05T20:13:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/?p=37730"},"modified":"2026-05-12T17:53:19","modified_gmt":"2026-05-12T21:53:19","slug":"aware-partners-with-harvard-to-spread-ssw-professors-intervention-therapy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/ssw\/aware-partners-with-harvard-to-spread-ssw-professors-intervention-therapy\/","title":{"rendered":"AWARE Partners with Harvard to Spread SSW Professor&#8217;s Intervention Therapy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After announcing a new collaborative partnership with Harvard University Health Services, BUSSW\u2019s <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Asian Women\u2019s Action for Resilience and Empowerment (AWARE)<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is now seeking volunteers to participate in an intervention research study that addresses the high rates of suicidal behavior among Asian-American women.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The study will serve as a holistic mental health intervention program for its participants, responding to a critical need for culturally-specific mental health services. Through a combination of targeted group psychotherapy and text-based communication, AWARE intends to improve the mental well-being of participants and teach healthier behaviors for coping with stress and adversity.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">AWARE\u2019s Harvard University Health Services (HUHS) partnership will replicate studies conducted at <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.wbur.org\/edify\/2016\/09\/12\/wellesley-asian-american-suicide-intervention\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Boston University and Wellesley College<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, where clinicians led eight group therapy sessions enforced by daily text messages. The sessions\u2019 topics range from gender and sexuality to parenting and the complexities of existing in two cultures at once.
