{"id":30688,"date":"2017-04-20T11:08:01","date_gmt":"2017-04-20T15:08:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/?page_id=30688"},"modified":"2026-04-17T13:10:09","modified_gmt":"2026-04-17T17:10:09","slug":"bridge","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/ssw\/admissions-financial-aid\/access\/bridge\/","title":{"rendered":"BRIDGE Program"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Since the early 1990s, we have addressed the need for the recruitment and preparation of newcomer social workers through a unique training program that\u00a0has since evolved into\u00a0BRIDGE\u00a0 \u2014 a groundbreaking program focused on increasing access to graduate social work education for\u00a0those who have historically not had it, including participants from around the globe, while addressing critical cultural competency needs within the human services workforce.<\/p>\n<p>This program increases the number of professionally trained social workers from underserved culturally and linguistically diverse newcomer populations through a unique structure of support that provides a transitional bridge to graduate academic communities.<\/p>\n<h5><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/ssw\/admissions-financial-aid\/access\/bridge\/applying\/\">Find details on applying and deadlines here.<\/a><\/h5>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div class=\"bu_collapsible_container \" aria-live=\"polite\" data-customize-animation=\"false\"><h3 class=\"bu_collapsible\" aria-expanded=\"false\"tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\">Program Structure<\/h3><div class=\"bu_collapsible_section\" style=\"display: none;\"><\/p>\n<p>Our program is structured in four phases.<\/p>\n<p><b>Orientation (Pre-Admission)<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>You&#8217;ll attend a free, nine-session pre-admission course that takes place from October to December.<\/li>\n<li>This course introduces you to the culture and expectations of graduate social work education as well as providing assistance and support if you go on to apply for admission to an MSW program.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Preparation (Pre-Matriculation)<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Preparation support eases the transition into graduate social work education for you if you are accepted into the BUSSW MSW program.<\/li>\n<li>Additional activities include social events and workshops on topics including\u2014but not limited to\u2014speed reading and writing graduate-level papers.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Education Program (Master of Social Work)<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>While there is no guaranteed financial assistance available in the BRIDGE program at the present time, our ultimate goal is to secure ongoing financial support for all BRIDGE participants who enroll as BUSSW students.<\/li>\n<li>Over the past two years, all BRIDGE students enrolled at BUSSW have received some financial assistance.<\/li>\n<li>If you are enrolled, you will continue to receive support and mentoring from the BRIDGE coordinators, faculty, and other student groups.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Career Development (Post-Graduation)<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>As a BRIDGE graduate, you&#8217;ll have access to Boston University\u2019s many career resources.<\/li>\n<li>Additionally, we assist graduating students with career planning and the employment search process, maintain a social and support network for newcomer alumni, and recruit former BRIDGE participants to provide voluntary assistance with future students in the program.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"bu_collapsible_container \" aria-live=\"polite\" data-customize-animation=\"false\"><h3 class=\"bu_collapsible\" aria-expanded=\"false\"tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\">Meeting Dates<\/h3><div class=\"bu_collapsible_section\" style=\"display: none;\"><\/p>\n<p>Typically, there are 8 sessions starting in October and ending in November that take place at BUSSW located at 264 Bay State Rd, Boston, Mass. from 5:30\u20137:30pm.<o:p><\/o:p><\/p>\n<ul><\/ul>\n<p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<h3>Contact BRIDGE<\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"mailto:claudiom@bu.edu\"><strong>Claudio Martinez<\/strong><\/a><br \/>\nBRIDGE Co-Director<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"mailto:jdelva@bu.edu\"><strong>Jorge Delva<\/strong><\/a><br \/>\nBRIDGE Co-Director &amp;
