Profs. Miller and Sprague Martinez

The Society of Social Work and Research (SSWR) inducted Profs. Daniel P. Miller and Linda Sprague Martinez as Fellows in 2022 and 2023 respectively. This fellowship recognizes individuals who make significant service contributions to the Society for Social Work Research every year and their commitment to SSWR’s goal of a more equitable society. 

Prof. Miller is an associate professor and the director of the PhD Program. His work specializes in the welfare of children and families. Recently, Prof. Miller co-led a study with three BUSSW PhD students on the 2016 presidential election’s chilling effects on immigrant families’ participation in food and nutrition assistance programs. Prof. Miller’s work has been published in the American Journal of Public Health, the Journal of Marriage and Family, Pediatrics, and Youth Services Review, as well as in news outlets like CNN, USA Today, and The Wall Street Journal.

Prof. Sprague Martinez is an associate professor whose work examines community engaged research approaches like community-based participatory research (CBPR) and youth-led participatory action research (YPAR). In 2017 she was honored by the Boston Housing Authority’s Center for Community Engagement and Civil Rights, Resident Empowerment Coalition for her work in improving housing equity. Prof. Sprague Martinez’s work has been published in the American Journal of Public Health, Health Affairs, Clinical and Translational Science and Progress in Community Health Partnerships, as well as in news outlets like the Hill, STAT News, the Boston Globe, WCVB Boston and C-SPAN.

The SSWR Fellows maintain their status for the duration of their membership to the Society and are inducted at the SSWR Annual Conference.
