Hello! My name is Joseli. As someone who studied anthropology with a minor in psychology and English, I find social work to be a gateway to everything I am fond of. Last year I had the opportunity – through BU – to travel to Nicaragua and learn about the Superemos Domestic Violence Program, in which I was also able to meet actual victims who were/are receiving Superemos’s services. I specialize in trauma and violence and hope to work in the area of healthcare in the future.
In the past, I worked for a nonprofit organization providing clinical work services to severe mental health clients. From that experience, I became aware of loopholes in our systems (healthcare, law, housing, etc.), and decided that doing macro work would allow me to help create new programs/services. However, I still enjoy clinical work, which is why I am more interested in working in mezzo type of settings. I hope to make changes either at local or national levels that include a racial and equity justice framework.
I am a Boston native who lives in Dorchester and am engaged with different organizations within my community. In my free time I enjoy reading manga, hanging out with my friends, and trying new activities within the city.
