PhD Student Emily Lamunu Presents Antiretroviral Therapy Proposal in AJPH Student Think Tank Art Show
BU School of Social Work (BUSSW) doctoral candidate Emily Lamunu presented her digital illustration of a proposed antiretroviral therapy (ART) application at the American Journal of Public Health (AJPH) 2024 Student Think Tank Art Show held at the 2024 APHA Annual Meeting recently in Minneapolis, Minn.
The illustration, titled “MYART 4 U,” explores the future of digital technology in supporting people living with HIV in Uganda, Lamunu’s home country.
Lamunu says sharing her art was an “incredible experience” and that she was inspired by the public health scholars and practitioners she met at the conference, including AJPH’s editor-in-chief Alfredo Morabia and fellow public health social workers focused on global health.
Emily Lamunu, MSW, is a doctoral candidate in BUSSW’s PhD in Social Work program and a graduate fellow at the school’s Center for Innovation in Social Work & Health who hopes to become part of a new era of socially conscious leaders in Africa centering policy, global health, research, advocacy and social justice in humanitarian work. Her research focuses on children and adolescents living with HIV/AIDS. In 2023 she was a summer in the field fellow at the BU Global Development Policy Center and recently participated in the American Public Health Association’s (APHA) 2024 Junior Investigator Writing Program in support of her scholarship on global social work and public health policy.
