Nevada County, CA: BUSSW Alumnus Named Public Health Director
Toby Guevin (SSW ’08) has been appointed Nevada County Public Health Director in California, stepping into a leadership role he has built toward from within the department over the past seven years.
Guevin joined Nevada County Public Health in 2019 and most recently served as program manager for the Health & Wellness Division, overseeing a range of health education and direct service programs. During that time, he spearheaded the department’s Opioid Overdose Prevention Program, expanded community access to health supplies and helped develop coalitions addressing mental health, overdose prevention, and air quality. In 2021, he was named the county’s Above and Beyond Employee of the Year for his role as a trusted public resource during the COVID-19 pandemic.
As director, Guevin plans to build on the department’s mobile health clinic work, which was recognized with a 2026 California State Association of Counties Challenge Award, to reach more residents with preventive and primary care services across the county.
“After seven years with this team, it remains a privilege to work alongside people so dedicated to the health and well-being of our community,” he said in the Nevada County press release. “We’ll continue to innovate and collaborate to ensure all Nevada County residents have the opportunity to thrive.”
