BUSSW Faculty to Share their Expertise at BU Research on Tap Event

For millions of children in immigrant families, access to healthcare, education, food, and housing is limited by policy, not just need.

“Research on Tap: The Well-Being of Children in Immigrant Families: Research on Policy and Practice” will bring together Boston University (BU) researchers to examine how policy, access, and systemic inequities shape child well-being.

The event is co-hosted by Boston University School of Social Work (BUSSW) faculty member Dolores Acevedo-Garciaprofessor of human behavior, research and policy, and director of the school’s Institute for Equity in Child Opportunity & Healthy Development (IECOHD). It will also feature Ruth Paris, BUSSW professor of clinical practice, and Cristina Brinkerhoff, BUSSW lecturer, along with colleagues from across the university.

Healthcare, education, food assistance, and housing are essential to healthy child development, yet many children in immigrant families lack access to federal, state, and local safety nets. With one in four U.S. children living in an immigrant family, this timely event will examine how policy exclusions, deportations, and family separation affect child well-being and highlight practices that support healthy development.

Hosted by the BU Institute for Early Childhood Well-Being and the Institute for Equity in Child Opportunity & Healthy Development at BUSSW, the event will feature short, high-impact presentations from researchers across disciplines, followed by discussion and networking.
